I got my problem resolved with a Google tech and our ISP, but it was a struggle. Next time this happens my first request will be for our ISP to reprovision our modem. That seemed to be the magic bullet.

Thanks for checking. We put the router and modem on a battery backup/UPS to try to prevent the surges that seem to trigger the issue. So far so good.
