Samsung phones cannot keep connection Google Nest Wifi

bacon1986

My wife and I have been having a continuing problem with our Samsung Galaxy phones (mine is an A50, hers an A51) keeping a strong connection to our Google Nest Wifi Mesh system. Periodically, about 15-30 minutes at a time, I will have to turn off wifi on my phone, then turn it back on so that my phone gets optimum speeds on the wifi. Then 15-30 minutes later my phone will get very slow wifi speeds, and sometimes have no internet connection at all through the wifi. But turning off wifi and then turning it back on works every time. I have tried restarting the routers and restarting the phones. No other devices on our network have this issue. I also never have this issue with my phone on other wifi networks, just my home's Nest network.

From looking at the specs on the phones you mentioned, neither is capable of WiFi 6 or Wifi 6e and cannot use WPA3. Try these steps:

  • In the Home app, go to the Networks Settings for the wifi network and then select Advanced networking
  • Turn off 160MHz and WPA3
  • Test to see if the issue resolves
  • If not, go back too the same settings page and turn off IPv6
  • Test again

Let me know if this resolves the issue or if you have the same problem still.

IPv6 and WPA3 were already off and my Nest settings do not have 160 Mhz options. Ialso tried turning off UPnP with no effect. Any other ideas?

Thanks for the update. And sorry for not catching that you did not have the new Nest Wifi Pro (mind was still on a different thread).

Just a few questions to help narrow things down more:

  1. Do you recall when the issue first started (after update on phone or network devices, any settings changes, phone carrier, ISP, etc.)?
  2. Do any other people's phone have the same issues?
  3. Any custom settings on the Nest Wifi?
  4. Any special equipment or software connected to the network?
  5. Do you know what brand and model of modem?
  6. Who is your ISP?

Hey folks,

Thanks for lending a hand, @PatrickP_Viking.
@bacon1986, I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Please let me know if you are still having any concerns or questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Thanks,
Mel

  1. Has occurred as long as I have had the Nest Wi-Fi Mesh system up.
  2. We don't have other phones on the network often enough for me to test.
  3. Just a custom password, and some parental controls on childrens' devices.
  4. Nothing special that I can think of. I have a ethernet switch to allow for some devices (TV and XBox) to be connected straight to the network via ethernet instead of over wifi.
  5. I believe it's a straight connection to the FiOS ONT. I'll have to verify when home.
  6. Verizon FiOS.

Thanks @bacon1986 . Unfortunately, this appears to be an issue with the phones and not an issue with the Nest Wifi. I did some digging around and this is a highly reported issue with them, especially on newer wifi equipment.

Please see the below article and the suggested steps to resolve. The article says "A51" but will work on the A50 as well. If you continue to have the disconnect issues, I'd advise to contact Samsung Support.
