Jeff,
You and your colleagues answered this previously and closed the topic about a year ago. I've read the post and tried to follow the suggestion Google Home>Favorites>Wifi >advanced network to attempt to add a custom DNS, but looks like the software has been updated and this is no longer located in these menus.
I have a Canon R8. Sending via email works fine through their image.canon app, however, connected services>google photos, although showing CONNECTED and NO ERRORS, nothing is uploaded to Google photos.
This is a super useful feature, so I'd really like to sort it out.
Respectfully,
Dahmooser

Hey @dahmooser .
I'm not sure which Jeff you are referencing in the OP but we have many in our group (😁); I can assist you though.
The latest version of the Google Home app is a different UI than when that post was made a year ago. Below is the link to the most up-to-date instructions:
Make sure that you set both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. While most IPv6 sites use IPv4 too, that will eventually start to be less and less the case as time goes on.
Here is the link for the Google Public DNS servers:

Greetings Honorable Viking!
Thank you for your reply! In such a large world with so many voices needing guidance, I truly appreciate it.
So, I have a reasonable technical background, but sometimes we miss realizing that our glasses are on our own head. I am hoping this is not the case with this. I wanted to post a screen grab from Google Home>Favorites as the article suggests (but I don't have permission), yet I do not see any "Wifi>settings" on this screen.
To reiterate (beat a dead horse) I simply want my R8 to connect via the app image.canon to Google Photos to upload my photos seamlessly from the camera...which is a SUPER cool feature of the camera system.
Perhaps it is that I have a different version of Home (3.1.1.15) or Android (12) ? Thoughts..or...are my glasses on top of my head?
May we meet someday in Valhalla!
Warmly,
Dahmooser

Here is a link to the previous thread.
forgive me, I don't post often here, so I might be a bit daft at this.

Hey @dahmooser .
I have the Public Preview dogfood version but the basic navigation should be similar at this point.
From Favorites, select "Wifi" at the top of the page, then select "Network Settings", next "Advanced networking" and lastly "DNS".
You should be able to take a screen shot if it is your own device. You may need to enable app permissions for your camera to take a screenshot.
Let me know how things go and if you are still having issues.
Skal!

Good morning!
Here is what I see as Favorites in Google Home App

Thanks for the screenshot @dahmooser .
You are not seeing the Wifi on the Favorites tab since you don't have any set up or the Nest Wifis aren't assigned to a room or home (could be other reasons but these are the most common). Try these steps to get to the DNS settings instead. Unfortunately, I cannot share any screenshots of mine since I am on a "preview" version and under an NDA.
Let me know how it goes.

Now we're narrowing it down. Hey, so I don't have any Nest Wifi, I only use Google home for a few lights and the Google Nest Hub Max (video chat). Your response almost sounds like I need a Nest device to connect my Canon Camera. Is that right? Perhaps this is the wrong area for this thread? Thoughts? This was about Google Photos and image.canon, Nest/Home only came into the conversation as it seemed like a work around for connecting the two apps???

Hey @dahmooser .
If you do not have a Google/Nest Wifi device then none of the settings will be present that have been previously discussed. You will get better assistance from the Google Photos Community for the issue.
I'll reach out to some internal contacts to get the post moved to the proper group. In the interim, you can make the DNS changes on your router if you want to try that first. The steps to get to the settings may be different depending on the router but you can still change the DNS.

Apologies for sullying the Nest area with this. Thanks for your guidance, and yes, let's see if we can hook into the Google photos team, that would be super helpful! Also, my camera is brand new, I can contact Canon to see what the deal is. Regardless, I'd like to see this post through to help other Canon owners to make this a more seamless process to Google Photos.

No worries @dahmooser . Sometimes it is hard to decide which community would be the best.
06-12-2023 12:19 PM
Canon users: I determined TWO things:
1. Reset your chosen wifi network and enable IPv6
2. Most important note: Google Photos does NOT support upload of RAW/HEIF images! The main reason I was NOT seeing the images upload, was not a function of the image.canon software but a LIMITATION of the current version of Google Photos!
I hope this provides some user the help they need as most folks shooting with a FULL FRAME state of the art dedicated Digital Camera are unlikely to be shooting JPG!

Thanks for the update @dahmooser . I'm glad you got it figured out!
We were not able to move the thread since it is on a different system. Please post this in the Google Photos Community if you haven't already in case others have had the same issue.
