When new device connects give admin allow/block option before the device connects

Could you please add admin functionality that allows to turn on network access approval flow? When new device gets connected we only have an option to get a notification. Would be great to extend that notifaction to have approve/decline before allowing the device to connect. Now the new device gets network access without any approval and only after that we can decline access. This is a security risk.

The only way a device can connect to your Wifi is if the person connecting it to your Wifi knows the password. Thereby I would argue it's not a security risk, and certainly not one specific to Nest Wifi, as there is a control in place to prevent this occurring. It's been that way for decades in the consumer space, whereas the kind of additional controls you speak of are typically only found in  enterprise and professional environments.

Nonetheless, the team are always looking for ideas and feedback, so feel free to send this feedback to Google.

Hi David,

I’m basically referring to a 2-step verification. Step 1: Password. Step 2: Admin approval. That’s industry standard on any consumer services today. So, I’d hope Google would allow us to use their WiFi products on a secure way. We need to expose WiFi password with so many 3rd party IoT providers nowadays that it really isn’t that secure to be honest.

Ps. The link you provided did not work for me.

Sure, but that's industry standard for account security but not joining a Wifi network. I've fixed the link I added!

You are right! I think I was cutting corners a bit here:). The real issue I’m having is that I see unknown devices popping up on my network and it would be easier for me to manage the device list by black listing all new devices and and white listing when necessary. Now it’s the other way around.
