WiFi Calling on Nest WiFi Pro

I have had a Pixel 8 Pro for 18 months.

My mobile network provider is EE and I have used them for many years.

My ISP is Zen internet and has been for many years.

Up until 2 days ago, I was happily using WiFi calling in my house using my Asus mesh WiFi (which connects to internet via my Fritzbox modem / router - again I have had this for many years).

I changed my Asus mesh (because of ongoing stability issues I could not resolve) to the Nest WiFi Pro mesh..I have 3 access points on top of the primary router point (which connects to the Fritzbox as the Asus did).

Stability of the mesh is good according to what I can see in Google Home and internet is running reasonably (although perhaps a little slower than the Asus when it was at its best).

Since the switchover, my WiFi calling has stopped, and I cannot find a reason for it. I've checked settings on my phone (which hadn't changed) and rebooted it. No help.

I have confirmed my internet signal is stable via my Fritzbox, and that the Fritzbox is working as intended. Again, nil changed on there for years except firmware updates.

I've read an older post where the supposed solution was that I had to set up a static IP for my phone in the Nest WiFi Pro settings, and the. port forward......

.......But I've never had to do that with the Asus mesh system, or prior routers that offered wireless (standalone or mesh). It seems beyond crazy that the Nest WiFi Pro (which offers minimal adjustment of settings, compared to prior products I have used - I assume on the grounds of making it "easy" for people) would kill WiFi calling, but I cannot find another cause currently.

I'm at a loss as to where to go from here and would appreciate advice please.

Hi karnesh,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry to hear that your Wi-Fi calling on your Pixel 8 Pro stopped working after you replaced your Asus mesh with a Nest Wifi Pro router. I appreciate you for confirming that your Fritzbox and internet connection are stable, and you've already rebooted your phone and checked its Wi-Fi calling settings. I'll be glad to help!

To help me find the best solution, I'll need to ask you a few questions:

  • When you try to make a Wi-Fi call, do you see any specific error messages?
  • When Wi-Fi calling was working with your Asus mesh, did you ever notice if your Pixel 8 Pro was assigned a specific IP address by your router, or did it typically get a dynamic IP?
  • Is the Google Home app up to date? Please check out the following link for your reference: Update the Google Home app

Please let me know if you have any other information; it'll be helpful.

Regards,
Juan
