Wifi Point setup help!

I have the initial router setup and it is working great, but when I went to add a point for a mesh setup I am having issues.

When using the Google home app it goes thru all the steps and gets to a spot to name the network, but there is already a network I would just like to add this one to?

Do you enter the existing network name in there? It never asks to join an existing network?

Thanks

Hi zapit,

Thank you for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with setting up your mesh point. I'd love to know more about this ‒ a few questions:

  • Is the child point broadcasting a setup SSID?
  • Are you selecting the same home structure where the parent point is setup to?
  • How far is the child point from the parent point?

You could also check this link to learn more about setting up your Google Nest WiFi points.

Thanks,
Edward

I’m not sure I understand all your questions so I’ll tell you what I did.
I set up first unit to incoming cable modem. Then attached to a switch by Ethernet cables.
then tried to follow Google home app for setup

there does not seem to be an option in the app, that I found, to ask if you are adding a node vs primary unit.
so the only option I could do was using same name as the primary. This of course confused devices previously setup on the original unit. Different IP addresses.
so I’ve disconnected the node unit, back to only getting the primary.

Hi, zapit.

It's been a while since we've checked in. I wanted to jump in and see if you were still seeing the same issue and to find out if anything has changed. I'll be happy to pick this up and work with you. Let me know if things are still the same.

Thanks.
