Wifi Pro DHCP 61 - can't connect

Rgm700

Is there a way to get Google to work with log in details or using DHCP 61.

Seems strange that Google wouldn't allow connection by WAN

Openreach connections normally rely on PPPoE. Your ISP should be able to help with the settings.

Even if it's full fibre ?

Yes. You would plug the Nest in to the ONT (the device in your picture) and you should be able to connect via PPPoE in most cases. Check with your ISP to be sure. I used to work in tech support for an ISP and as far as I'm aware things haven't changed in the last year since I changed jobs.

Thank you I'll contact sky 👍

Good luck. In the past Sky used to be a bit fussy about people using their own routers, but they may have changed.

Hey Rgm700,

I wanted to check in and see if you had a chance to contact your ISP and to see if you learned anything there that would help sort this out. If you still haven't had a chance to speak with them, just let us know.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hey Rgm700,

It's ok if you still haven't had a chance, but I wanted to follow up once more before the weekend to see if you had any new info from your ISP.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi again, Rgm700,

Just another quick check in to see if you managed to get a hold of your ISP.

So spoke to sky and they said the user name is admin with the wifi password. This doesn't work though

Hey Rgm700,

Just to clarify, the ISP was trying to provide you the info to log into the modem so you can change its settings, correct? When you are referring to the login info, you're not talking about the info to change anything on the Nest WiFi Pro device, are you? Can you clarify a bit more about the steps the ISP gave you?

Thanks,
Jeff

No this was the login so I can connect the Cable directly from fibre to the WAN port. It was meant to be the PPPOE log in details

Hey Rgm700,

Thanks for the update. To confirm, did your Internet service provider give you a modem to connect your ONT box to or is your ONT box directly connected to the WAN port of your Google Wifi router? We’ll wait for your update.

Cheers,
Abi

Hello, they did provide me with a router that connects to my modem on the wall. I have to connect the Google nest to the router provided so the internet works. If I connect the nest to the wall modem then it needs log in details which don't work or they just won't provide. If Google nest pro had dhcp61 it wouldn't be a issue after some researching

Hello again Rgm700,

Please try the steps below:

  1. Ensure that you’re entering the correct PPPoE username and password; this will probably be different from any password you created for previous Wi-Fi networks and may be different from the username and password used to manage your account with the ISP.
  2. Unplug the modem from power.
  3. Wait 30 seconds and plug the modem back in.
  4. Wait approximately 3 minutes to let the modem come back online completely.
  5. Enter your PPPoE username and password again.
  6. If you continue to receive the message “Error connecting to WAN” followed by the PPPoE credentials screen, please contact your Internet service provider for further help.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Abi
