Wifi slowing down - only thing that helps is restarting the device

Like the subject suggests, I'm experiencing slow-downs of my wifi to where it's unusable, on a daily basis. Only thing that helps is restarting the device. Started maybe a month or so ago.

I've come across multiple people complaining about the same thing, but no one seems to have found a solution and the threads are all closed on here, so I thought I'd try my luck reaching out.

My device is running the latest firmware version (14150.882.9). I haven't tried factory reseting my device yet (and frankly don't think that's something that I should have to do). Running a speed test on the Nest suggests that I have "Blazing fast" internet when the problem occurs, but it's still only getting me something like 1.2 mbps running speed tests on my actual devices.

I’m having the same problem! It’s so frustrating. I have a modem through my service provider and I’m using the Google Nest router and pucks. Lately, I’ve had to unplug my router twice a day to get the network working properly and I’m looking for a more permanent solution.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I am sorry that you are having issues with your Google Wifi slowing down. Don't worry, I'm here to help! Let's take a look and see what's going on.

Here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can try to address the slowdowns and potentially find a more permanent solution as you already try rebooting your device before:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Check Network Usage: Monitor your network usage to identify potential bandwidth hogs. Use the Google Home app to see which devices are consuming the most bandwidth. Consider prioritizing devices that need a stable connection (like streaming devices) or temporarily pausing downloads on other devices.
  • Placement Optimization: Ensure your Google Nest Wifi router and points are positioned optimally for strong signal coverage throughout your home. Here are some tips:
    • Central Location: Place the router in a central location within your home to ensure even signal distribution.
    • Minimize Obstructions: Avoid placing the router or points near thick walls, metal objects, or large appliances that can weaken the Wi-Fi signal.
    • Line of Sight: If possible, position the router and points with a clear line of sight to connected devices for optimal signal strength.
  • Firmware Update: I understand that you ensured that your Google Nest Wifi router and points are running on the latest software and firmware version. Updates often contain bug fixes and performance improvements. Check for updates within the Google Home app.
  • Factory Reset - Last Resort: If none of the above solutions work, consider resetting your Google Nest Wifi network to factory settings. This will erase all custom settings and network configurations. Note: Only perform a factory reset if you're comfortable reconfiguring your network afterwards.

Additional Considerations:

  • Internet Service Provider: If the slowdowns persist even after troubleshooting your Google Nest Wifi, consider contacting your internet service provider (ISP) to ensure there aren't any issues with their service affecting your overall internet speed.

Let me know how it goes.
