Wired router used as access point only shows "good" connection

Setup: Nest Wifi Router -> Unmanaged Gigabit Switch -> Nest Wifi Router (as access point). The router used as an AP only ever shows a "good" connection during the mesh test. The Google Home app confirms the connection is "wired." What is preventing this router from having a "great" connection?

I'm not sure that's the case, actually (though I can't prove it). I have a suspicion in this case that the Ethernet cable for one of the links here is only managing to maintain 100Mbps. To confirm that, I would use the Google Home app and find one of the WiFi clients that is currently connected to that secondary (access point) Nest WiFi Router unit and tap on the "info" tab for it, then scroll down to the bottom and look at the three numbers under "Device speed". The first number is just the internet speed test between the primary Nest WiFi Router and your ISP. But the second number should be the result of the mesh speed test that checks how fast that secondary Nest WiFi Router can talk to the primary Nest WiFi Router, and it should reflect how fast it can connect via Ethernet if it is working as a wired secondary. One of my Google WiFi wired secondaries, for example, shows 484Mbps here, and I know it's WiFi connection would be close to half of that if it weren't using Ethernet. If yours shows 100Mbps or less here, that's an indication you have a wiring problem).

The mesh test is only wireless afaik, so it does not say that the wired connection isn't better than great.

Edit: I assumed wrong, sorry for the misinformation.

Thank you! You're correct, it's the ethernet cable. Both the secondary router (as confirmed by your instructions in the Google Home app) and my laptop (when plugged in directly to that ethernet cable) are getting the same speed, just under 100 Mbps. Looks like I've got a bigger project ahead of me since this is wired directly through the walls.

At least you know where the issue is. You might try putting new ends on in hopes that's where the issue is before pulling a whole new cable.
