cannot add wifi points to mesh

TheresaL
Community Member

I am in the US. I purchased the Google wifi 3-points package yesterday, 12/3/22.

I successfully set up the first point as the router without issue.

I have now spent 3 HOURS trying to connect the remaining 2 points. I have reviewed the multiple closed threads on this issue and none has yielded a workable solution. Google Specialist, please help me and this community by providing simple, specific, step by step instructions.

Like in a previous thread, it seems that upon taking a picture of the QR code, I get, "connection failed, couldn't connect to device. try again or tap get help. - This is just a circuitous loop.

I then switched to the wifi network created for the google home, and received the following failure:

DNS resolution failed for googlehomefoyer-pa.googleapis.com; 443: UNKOWN:nodename nor servname provide or not know.

See following Google Support guide for "Troubleshoot setup with iOS":

---

Make sure the device used for the setup process with the Google Home app have no VPN enabled/ connected; not any 3rd party product, nor the "Apple iCloud Private Relay" ( https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212614 ).

Make sure the Google Home app has been granted permission for "local network access" ( https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/7172427?hl=en ).

While connected to the Google Wifi/ Nest Wifi wireless network with your iPhone or iPad and doing work with the Google Home app, make sure following settings is disabled:
• "HTTP Proxy" ( https://www.expressvpn.com/support/troubleshooting/disable-proxy-safari/#ios ).
• "Limit IP Address Tracking".
• "Private IP Address", also known as "MAC randomization" ( https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/security/secb9cb3140c/web ).

When adding additional points: IPv6 on Nest Wifi has caused strange problems lately. One thing to try is to disable IPv6 ( https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/6361450?hl=en ), add new Nest Wifi unit, then leave IPv6 off or enable it again.

---

If nothing of the above works, try from a different iOS, iPadOS or Android device, using the Google Home app with the same Google account, or a Google account that has been granted access to the specific Google Home home ( https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9155535?hl=en ).

I don't work for Google.
