Okay, this will probably sound dumb but here goes. Do I need a google router before I get the points?
I've just moved house, in the UK, and while the internet is working fine the computer is just not getting the speeds my other half needs to do his work effectively or for his games in the upstairs room. (Can't bring it down as we don't have the space.) he has tried the wall plug-in internet expanders and has found some of them interfere with his wireless headphones so that's a no-go.
Do I need to get a google router or can I use the router we already have and connect the points to that? I'm looking to get this as a gift for him and am struggling to find the answer.
Thanks for all help and advice!

You'll need a Nest Wifi router or Google Wifi as the main point (must have ethernet ports and connect to internet by ethernet cable). But it will act as a typical router, with NAT, DHCP, firewall, so best practice is to bridge and disable Wi-Fi on the ISP equipment to avoid double NAT.
Then you can expand with any kind of Nest Wifi or Google Wifi puck.
