hard wire google wifi points (ac1200) through a smart switch

Is it possible to hard wire google wifi points together through a smart switch (ie. connect the gray port on 1 wifi device into the smart switch and connect the green port on another wifi device into the samre smart switch, there will already be a hard wire from the smart switch directly into the cable modem) ?

The order must be modem -> primary nest wifi -> switch -> other devices, such as nest wifi.

This is called wired backhaul:

It is advisable to use unmanaged switches instead though. You might encounter problems when using managed seitches, such as STP (spanning tree protocol). But if you can turn such functionality off, it should be good.

I don't work for Google.

HI folks,

@olavrb, as always, thanks for helping out — appreciate it!

@eugene1, how's it going with your Google Nest WiFi? Still need our help?

Thanks,

Edward

I connected the router to the green port of the main wifi point and then connected the grey port to my tp-link TL-SG108 switch. I then connected another wifi point through the grey port to the same TL-SG108 managed switch ... this wifi point still shows that it is not connected in the app although the blue light is visible. Would I need to power cycle this wifi point? Is there a way to reset this unconnected wifi point if it is not connected on the google home app?

Hi, eugene1.

To perform a reset without using the Home app, you can always power cycle your device. Simply unplug it, wait for 10-20 seconds, and plug it back in. It will go through a reset process for you. If you still have issues at that point, please let us know.

Thanks.
