Adding guest for Nest locks has become exponentially more difficult!

It was SO easy to add guests for our Nest locks in the Nest app. The guest didn't need to interact with the app at all...we just set-up a code and gave it to them. Now, in Google, it appears we need to invite a guest to "join" our home. To let a dog-walker in, we need to invite them and have them download the app? Why? We also haven't seen any ability to limit the dog-walker to door access only. When sending the invitation, it never asked us to define the level of access or to set a code for them. I actually have no idea how the code is set. Do they set it themselves? Not intuitive AT ALL. I find myself being deeply saddened that Google bought Nest. If anyone has insights/help, we'd value it. I ended up just giving the dog walker a code that we previously set up for someone else.

Hello David_S1,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues adding a guest passcode. Let’s check it out.

Please try using the Nest app to add a guest to your Nest home. To create a new passcode for someone, you’ll need to add them to your Nest home. Then the Nest app will automatically generate a passcode for them. This option is in Settings Nest settings icon > Family & Guests family and guests icon. Each passcode is linked to a specific person, whether you’ve invited them to share Full access or given them Home Entry Only. People with Home Entry Only access will only be given a passcode.

Let me know how it goes.

All the best,

Lance

The Nest app gives me the message, “Now that Nest and Google have come together, home members can only be added in the Google Home app.”  So, it appears to be impossible to use the Nest app to complete this.

Hi David_S1,

Thanks for circling back. I’m sorry to hear that this still isn’t resolved and for the delayed response here. Please try the additional steps below:

  1. Check for any iOS updates and install them if there are any.
  2. Uninstall the Nest app, restart your phone, and then reinstall the app.
  3. Check if the issue happens on both Wi-Fi and mobile data.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Lance
