Can't set family codes for Yale lock

DragonChowhound

hi there,

I added a new Yale x lock to my existing Nest account, which is also linked to our existing Google Home (which has dozens of devices in it).
I have a family group already that includes my wife and kids, and the Nest app seems to see that.  However, I absolutely cannot figure out how to set individual access codes for the lock for each family member.  In the Nest app, it says I have to do that from Google Home, but I just can't find any way in there to set the entry codes.

All family members are in the group as admins, not sure if that complicates things.
Any help is appreciated.   I was super excited to install the lock, but now the experience is getting frustrating...

Check the lock manual
Some models have limitations on who can create codes (only the lock's "administrator").

2. Update the lock app
Make sure the app is on the latest version.

3. Check the app's account permissions
Some apps only allow you to set codes if you are the "owner" or "administrator" of the lock, not a guest.

4. Check the lock's connection
Make sure the lock is connected correctly (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or Hub). If the connection is poor, you may not be able to save the code.

⚙️ In-app checks (Examples: Yale, August, Positivo Casa, etc.):

Go to the Users or Access Codes option in the app.

Check if there is a limit on the number of codes already registered.

Some apps only release remote codes through paid plans.

🛑 Most common problems:

Problem Probable cause

"Family" option not showing Account permissions or app out of date
Error when saving code Poor Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection
Code not accepting Incorrect code pattern (4-8 digits, etc.)

🚩 If nothing works:

1. Restart the lock (factory reset).

2. Reinstall the app.

3. Reconnect the account.

Hi @DragonChowhound,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I'm really sorry to hear your new Nest Yale Lock isn't giving you the option to set up individual access codes for your family members. I can definitely understand how frustrating that must be when you're trying to get a new device fully integrated. No need to worry; I'd be glad to help.

To assist you in troubleshooting, could you please provide the following information:

  • Can you describe exactly what you see in the Nest app when you try to create access codes?
  • Are you tapping through to Settings > Family & Guests? > Guest codes?

Also, ensure no other administrators are simultaneously adding codes, as this can cause a minor issue. For detailed instructions, see this article: How to set or change passcodes for Nest × Yale Lock.

I appreciate your help @Francisco555.

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,

Gabriela
