Best is trying to send verification code to my old non working phone number. Google has my current correct number please help

When you're using two-factor authentication, you need to change the phone number you've specified for two-factor authentication BEFORE you change your phone number, or temporarily turn off two-factor authentication until the new number is working. If you do not do so, there are limits to what Google (or other vendors depending on two-factor authentication) can do.
