Hi. I have been using Nest security system for past two years with out any major issues until two days ago. One of my Nest Detect went offline. Even after changing the battery I am unable to restart the defect. Any suggestions to fix this issue. Thanks.

I know you said you are unable to restart the detect, as I don't own one I can't troubleshoot too deeply, but have you followed the factory reset directions on this link?

Please let me know either way so I can see where we need to go from here.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Yes I have followed the trouble shooting advice. I am unable to start it even after changing the battery. Lights won’t turn on even if I hold it for few seconds.

Hi there,

I apologize for my late response. Thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I can definitely understand how frustrating your situation must be. I just wanted to make sure that your issue is addressed.

  • Nest Detect has a Troubleshooting Guide and I think you should take a look at it and follow the instructions.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Hi Brad

Thanks for your response. I have followed all the instructions in the troubleshooting but it seems dead. I have also seen couple more people in this forum wrote about the same issue. Is it some bad batch of Detect sensors that broke in 2 years?

@BV

Have you checked the Nest app to check on the battery? It could just have a dead battery.

Brad.

Sorry I need clarification from you, and specifics. Is the battery replaced? Learn how to do that here. I would suggest replacing the battery before it is determined that it is dead dead. It most likely just has a dead battery.

Brad.

Hi. I have tried new batteries and other steps in the troubleshooting. None Of them helped so far.

I have the same exact problem as BV. I've replaced the batteries with multiple fresh batteries, even with batteries that can power on the other Nest Detect sensors. I've followed the troubleshooting documentation to reset the device to no avail.

@Brad thanks for following up with this issue. Google has a bad rap for discontinuing products and leaving its customers stranded. I'm hoping you can disprove that. 🙂

Hi Jefferre
I have been dealing with these for few weeks now. Google doesn’t seem to care once they have sold their product. Especially they have stopped selling and supporting Nest guard products since they signed up a deal with ADT. There is no option to even buy a new Nest detect replacement to keep using the Nest guard system. Hope I never invested in so many of their Nest products.

Hey folks,

Thank you for your feedback and the information that you all have shared. I am afraid because the Nest Detect is discontinued, troubleshooting steps are a bit lighter than some of our other products. I am very sorry to hear that the battery change is not working long-term. However, I do not have another fix for this issue. Id suggest you Restart/Factory Reset your Nest Detects and continue to change the battery.

Best Regards,

Brad.
