Nest Yale Lock after Nest Guard Ends April 8, 2024

I can't find a definitive statement anywhere on whether my Nest Yale lock might have even some partial functionality after the April 8, 2024 discontinuance of Nest Guard.  Does anyone know for sure?

I'm hoping there would be a way to make it function like any other internet accessible door lock, but since it currently works through Nest Guard (I think), I suspect I'll have to just toss it in the trash.  (At least I saved my old keyed door lock.)

I can't say whether the Nest Guard will keep the Nest x Yale lock connected to wifi after April 8, 2024, but you should definitely be able to add a Nest Connect in place of the Guard and continue using the lock.

Since your Nest Guard has battery backup, take your Nest Guard for a ride in the car. Then at least you do not have to reconnect anything in the app. Just simply go for a ride a couple blocks away and then unlock the door. If your lock is unlocked when you come back, it worked.

I had so many cameras that I did not need to lock my doors, I was notified before someone was to the door.

Great idea.  I'd never hear of a nest connect, but the info about it on the Google Store suggests you are correct.  I ordered one out of concern that Google might discontinue it if I waited closer to the deadline of April 8, 2024.  I'm betting that if it doesn't work, I can return it.

"Should."  So, a community member who doesn't actually know anything, is fronting for a massively profitable conglomerate who screwed their customers over, again, and provided no details because they were either incompetent, or cowards.   Either reason is why I will never buy another Google product again.

I'm also disgusted with Google.  They have a bad history of discontinuing products after people invest their time, energy, and money in them.  The letter sent to Nest Secure owners is a good example of how Google treats its customers.  The letter gave a corporate-speak explanation of why they're doing this, none of which made any sense, and it left many unanswered questions.  I also will never buy anything from Google again.

Class-action. You're definitely not alone. They have no right to disable my property...or yours!

What really pisses me off about that letter was that originally they said that they would not remove Nest Guard from the app... and then they did.

Then they offer a "credit" and when you use the "credit" you are not able to use it on "promotions" like any other Google credit... Ask for information to send to the attorney general or BBB for false advertising and the send you through loops for 2 weeks before you finally give up.

I canceled everything with Google. I no longer have a camera (I am a new satisfied Ring customer). I canceled YouTube TV, YouTube Music, Drive, the camera monitoring package, etc. They lost over $1,400 annually in packages.

I'm with you. We need a class-action against Google. They have no right to disable products we own.

CrimsonCardinal suggested I get a Nest Connect.  I did that, and I added it successfully to my WiFi.  The Lock works exactly as it did before I got the new Nest Connect (when it communicated through my Nest Guard).  So, I don't know whether the lock is connecting the the Guard or through the Connect.  Is there any way to confirm which?  And how can I change it if it connect to the wrong device?

I'm replying to the Jam3s suggestion that I take my Guard for a ride to see if my Nest/Yale Lock will still work remotely.  I just got back from doing exactly that.  Even without the Guard at home, I can lock and unlock the door remotely.    I'm pretty confident this is a conclusive test.  So, when the Guard becomes junk on April 8, 2024, my Nest/Yale lock will continue to work through my Nest Connect.

Thanks for your great suggestion.

So I take it Google is doing absolutely nothing about any of these issues? Should I consult an a class-action attorney?

Yes. The only language Google speaks is one where $$$ is pulled from their bank accounts.

Yep.  I bought over $1000 of Nest Detect sensors for my home at $50/ea for window security and motion sensors.  Come April 8, it is my understanding (so far) that my smarthome investment will become arbitrarily useless without the discontinued Nest Guard.
