Upgraded to GFiber 6E internet; Nest Connect will not connect; Yale/Nest locks won't connect

We upgraded our GFiber fiber jack and route to 6E over the weekend. All other devices connected fine, with the exception of my Nest Connect, which needs to be connected in order for my Yale x Nest locks to function.

I have spent hours with Nest support, and even GFiber support. Here is where we are at, still with no resolution:

  • We split the GFiber wifi bands to 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz
  • When I go to set up the Nest Connect in my Nest app, I connect it to the 2.4 GHz band (which my phone is also connected to). GFiber indicates that Nest Connect is ONLY compatible with 2.4 GHz band.
    • The set up actually appears to be working, as it finishes set up and the Nest Connect light turns green. However, when I run a connectivity check on the Nest Connect, I get the yellow light, meaning it's not connected.
  • Nest has sent me a new Nest Connect. This new device also will not connect to my new wifi 2.4 GHz band, and errors out with a yellow light during the connectivity check.
  • I have factory reset my Yale locks multiple times in this process. That has not improved the situation either.

I think the issue is with the Nest Connect, and not the locks themselves due to the yellow light I get during the connectivity check. Any help out there?

Hi @aileene33!

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Connect is not connected to Wi-Fi. But do not worry; I am happy to help you fix this issue. To assist you better, I have some questions for you:

  • When and from where was the device purchased?
  • How far have you gotten in pairing your device?
  • What’s the color of the LED status light?
  • How far is the device from the router?
  • Are there any other devices that experience issues with the Wi-Fi?
  • Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the device you want to pair?

I'll be waiting for your response; any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,
Jeremy.

Hi @Jeremyg ,

I was actually able to find a solution with this YouTube video: I connected the nest thermostat and nest connect to my phone hotspot, connected my yale locks to the nest connect, then switched the thermostat and nest connect back to the home wifi.

It is a very strange solution, if you ask me, but it did seem to work. After hours on the phone/chat with Nest support, no one had recommended this troubleshooting step....but it worked and my locks are connected now!
