Is it possible for a device to support both HomeKit and Google Home?

Hi,

We are thinking of building a new smart intercom device for buildings, and currently exploring the different software design for the intercom.

The intercom really needs only the ability to open the door remotely, and initiate video calls to tenants phones.

One thought was to connect the smart intercom to HomeKit/Google Home. This is a must because there are many tenants in the building and we need to support both IOS and Android.

So the question is - would it be possible to pass both the MFI program for HomeKit and the Matter certification?

Would MFI program block getting the Matter certification?

Thanks!

In general, since Matter brings compatibility across ecosystems, devices implemented with Matter should work independent of the ecosystem. Though please note the currently supported devices with Matter Integrations, working with Google/Matter. On the Matter with MFI program part, since the MFI program is run by Apple, we recommend reaching out to them to verify this.

Hi Volijj,

Once you get  Matter certification, your device will be compatible with Apple ecosystem as well, so not sure why to certify your product also against MFI program. Matter protocol is exactly meant for interoperability across different ecosystems.
