BBC Radio Scotland medium wave

Diamondchap

At various times of day, BBC Radio Scotland splits its output across different radio frequencies.  For example, on some weekday evenings, they play music on their FM frequency and sport on their MW frequency.

When that splitting of output occurs, if I ask my Home Mini to play BBC Radio Scotland it plays whatever's on the FM radio frequency.  If I ask it to play the name of the programme I want to listen to on the MW frequency (Sportsound), it either says it can't find it, or plays something random from Youtube Music.

Is there a way I can instruct it to play a particular programme broadcast on their MW frequency?

Hi @Diamondchap I don't live in Scotland or have access to what you listen to, but is it possible that what you want is not available because BBC hasn't made that split available in all dayparts or at all? So when you ask, you get what's available at the time of day on the main channel -- which is what they make available to Nest. The device isn't a radio, it streams feeds from various sources made available by the content owner, in this case BBC.

Maybe the station has a podcast for the specific program you want to listen to -- but with a stream, it's what's on and there are limited choices outside of the network or genre.

Thanks, I guess that could be the explanation.  Programmes on the MW frequency are available on their website, app, DAB and cable TV (though not TuneIn) so I kind of assumed it would be available through Nest too.

Yeah, my understanding is Tune-in, as is iHeart Radio are partners with Google and they provide those types services for the devices. Tune-in a.) may not yet know there's another band or b.) BBC Radio Scottland may not have agreed to give Tune-in retransmission rights. If it's "b" chances are it's to drive listeners to their app and advertisers or they want to keep it exclusive -- only they would know and finally c.) Tune-in may add it after their retransmission agreement expires and will add it under the new agreement.

You could email both and encourage them to add the feed to the service or you might be able to cast the program from your browser if using Chrome or from the handheld device. My dollars to donuts guess is Google has zero to do with the programming offered by its partners. It's similar to the cable systems, if they don't offer a specific channel, raising the alarm to the  TV manufacturer won't help. This is a similar situation although it's not made very clear for some reason.
