We have six Google Home Hub displays, versions 1 and 2. We were having more and more trouble with broadcasts not going through, our voices not being heard or registering so we'd have to repeat the message, etc.
All of these problems were infuriating, so I did a factory reset on all of them. Now NONE of them broadcast the audio at all, pretty much ever!! It makes the beeping noise that proceeds the audio of a broadcast coming through, but than no other audio at all! They all now only show the text of the broadcast on the screen and that's it.
We went from that happening on some of the displays sometimes or often, to them all now doing it practically every time.
I'm at a loss for a solution. Factory resets only made things worse.
Edit: We did just setup a new Asus GT-AXE16000 router on the same day as the factory resets. But the problems were already very bad before that on the previous router, the Asus GT-AX11000. They all used to work much better and much more constantly in that same setup. But they've just kept getting worse and worse over the last year or so.

I am having the same problem. We set up a new router and had to reset it a few times to connect to the wifi.
2 other nest speakers work great but this one is doing the same as others are saying. only typing what they are broadcasting. no audio other than a pin and then the message comes through in type.

Hi we are also having same issue message appears on the screen but no audio. This is clearly a bug when is the fix coming?
03-12-2025 04:42 AM
Same problem here. No audio and only displaying text. Nothing new are our home with internet connections. Just stopped working.

This is clearly a bug with several consumers experiencing for several weeks. when is this going to be addressed with an update? Felling out a form that is NEVER responded too is not a acceptable solution.

I filled out the form ages ago and still haven't heard a peep. Judging by the number of appliance from people at the same problem, this is obviously a bug. Is a fix coming?

We are having the same issue and submitted the form. Please advise on next steps, we have not changed router or anything related to our network in roughly a year
03-10-2025 06:26 PM
Same no network changes since july-ish. We even replaced one speaker completely and it to fail 99 out of 100 tries. No automation with announcements work either.
12-16-2024 12:54 PM
I am also having the same issue now. When Broadcasting, the broadcast notification beep happens and the text of the message appears on the Nest Hub but there is no audio message. This happens on both the Google Nest Hub and Hub Max. I have not made any changes to my networking configuration. Both devices are running the following firmware:
Nest Hub Max: 22.20240805.103.161
Nest Hub (2nd Gen): 22.20240805.103.161
12-16-2024 05:04 PM
I am having the exact same issue as well. Just text of the broadcast, no audio or the message. We got a new router (mesh setup) and because the hubs do not allow to merely change WiFi name, we had to factory reset and re-add them (which is a pain on its own), but now broadcast stopped working like it used to.

I have a problem with my Nest Hub 2.
When i broadcast a message to the Hub from one of my other 9 assistant devices + Smartphone (home mini or nest mini or Pixel 4a or Pixel 6a or Lenovo Smart Clock1 or Lenovo Smart Display 7) the message wont be spoken, only text is showing on the display.
For an long time the same issue with a Lenovo Smart Display 7. Since a few days with the Google Nest Hub 2 set up the first time in my home.
On first start of the Hub 2 it works fine, than an few oures later it shows only texts on broadcasting. After a restart ist works also fine for a few times, than on the next day it wont.
Google Nest Hub 2
Firmware: 22.20240805.103.161
Cast Firmware 3.75.446835

I'm now having the same problem that several people have already reported. An announcement on a Google Home/Nest mini doesn't work. A preset broadcast doesn't work either. However, I set up an automatic announcement that says "It's seven o'clock," and that works.
I hope the problem will be resolved soon.
01-12-2025 04:30 PM
We are also having this same issue on the hub max not playing the audio and just the text
01-17-2025 09:51 PM
I am also having the same issue.
I too factory reset my devices. I even created a new home in the Google home app and factory reset my entire house worth of devices. I got audio broadcast back briefly after doing this however within a day or so it started failing again, and now doesn't work at all, other than with text.. which doesn't help me with my kids.. who ignore it.
01-22-2025 06:26 PM
Same issue here. Reset devices and still have issues. No changes to our networking.
01-27-2025 11:01 AM
We’ve also been having this issue for the past couple months. For example, I’ll say “Broadcast: it’s time for dinner”, then the GHome Display screen upstairs will have the same audio chime, and the screen will show TEXT ONLY “It’s time for dinner”, but there is NO audio announcement. There’s a “mini” speaker which will play the audio announcement, but any unit with an actual screen stays silent. We tried factory resetting 3 times, and within 1-2 days, the displays go silent again. It’s driving us crazy! It used to work fine. Is there a solution for this?
01-29-2025 05:18 AM
We are facing the same issue. I found out becaue the family bell is doing the same thing (just text but no audio) and then I realized that the Family Bell is a sort of "automatic broadcast". I've tried a lot but still doesn't make a sound. Not sure what is happening.
03-01-2025 10:32 AM
Same issue here as well
03-02-2025 07:33 AM
Same issue txt only did anyone get this sorted
03-02-2025 08:33 AM
having the exact same problems in my house and my parents
03-02-2025 08:36 AM
I reset my Nest Hub Max but that did nothing so don't waste your time with that. No fix that I know of right now.
03-02-2025 08:37 AM
same problem at my house and mothers but it is very strange I've had Google homes since they launched and I've never had this problem but I took one of my parents Google home displays and put it in my house and now my house has got the same problem broadcasting text only
03-02-2025 07:21 PM
Same problem here. Minis, hub, hub max, all the same. Text on screen but no audio announcement.
03-03-2025 10:55 AM
Same here here. I've found it'll broadcast/announce to a single device with no issues, but if more than 1 device is selected it just beeps, unless the message is 4 words or less in which case it reads it too
03-03-2025 01:38 PM
Exactly the same for me. A few days ago it was perfect and now it just makes the alert sound but noting follows (aside from on the display which shows text). Infuriating and strange

Well this has been going on for three months now for some of us. I'd like to think Google is looking into it but who knows...
03-04-2025 10:52 AM
No update or improvement from Google... my broadcasting feature is still not fixed and no longer works. This is extremely frustrating and Google seems to not care
03-04-2025 04:30 PM
Same issue here... So frustrating.
Google is going down hill for quality and service.
It beeps but no sounds during broadcast.
03-04-2025 04:40 PM
Same issue. Occasionally a broadcast will go through but usually we hear the tone and no message speech.
We started noticing it on Family Bell which stopped working completely.
In case that was the issue because I know family Bell is going away. We moved everything to routines but we still have the problem where we can't broadcast.
Even some of our routines don't work all the time. Even some of our routines don't work all the time
Google WTH?
03-07-2025 05:34 AM
I think someone else mentioned it... If the broadcast is four words or less it seems to work.
The pre-recorded ones don't seem to work, like good morning, were a rooster crows.
It is a workaround but still infuriating.
I updated all of my routines to be under five words. 🙃
03-07-2025 09:09 AM
Unfortunately I have a three word message and that didn't work either for me.
03-10-2025 06:31 PM
I did a one word broadcast and it failed....
03-05-2025 06:35 PM
Same issues.
Google Home Minis. 7 of them. Same issues across all of them.
03-06-2025 01:21 PM
I have filled out the form and linked back to this thread. I will also post this on the Google Home thread on Reddit. It is extremely infuriating as this is the main way we communicate throughout the house.
03-08-2025 08:01 AM
Broadcast is no longer working. When someone attempts to broadcast over Google home, the broadcast noise sounds and then there is silence. Please fix
03-08-2025 05:33 PM
Same deal.
Though if I tell the speaker to say it again, it comes through properly.
This is crap. These are basic functions that have always worked. Why not now?
03-08-2025 09:40 PM
Facing the same issue. Google is going downhill and routines has stop working too.
Friend's Alexa is flawless and I'm considering cutting my losses and switch.
