Can't add Hue BT bulb with the Nest Hub

Lamiaarcheo

Hello,

I have one Hue BT bulb in my living room and it was working for years with my Nest Hub until I removed it a few months ago and wanted to add it again.  It is recognized by the Hue app without any problems and if I move my Nest Mini speaker from another room to the living I can add the Hue bulb to my Google Home. The moment I move Nest Mini away, so only Nest Hub stays, the connection to the light is lost. So I think the problem is with the Nest Hub. However there's no problem to operate other devices ( Hombii, Netatmo, Yamaha ) from my Nest Hub. I rebooted everything 10 times by now, cleared cache, nothing seems to be helping. What do you suggest?

Hi @Lamiaarcheo

Thank you for the timely post and the comprehensive information you provided. I understand that you are encountering some issues with your Google Nest Hub losing connection with your Hue BT bulb when you take your Google speaker device away.I am here to help you. Let's work together to find a solution.

To assist you further, please provide me with the following information:

  • Are your smart light bulbs successfully set up on the same WiFi network?
  • If your lights are also set up in the device maker’s app, are you able to control your lights through that app?
  • Are any of the voice commands from Google Home working with your Philips Hue lights?
  • Have you recently made any adjustments to your WiFi network, Google Home, and/or Philips Hue setup?
  • Have you ever been able to control your Philips Hue lights via your Google Home?
  • Have you recently factory reset your Google Home or Philips Hue bridge?
  • When did the issue start?
  • What is the model of your Google Nest Hub?
  • Have you tried connecting the Google Nest Hub to a different power source?
  • Did you see the error message on the Google Home app screen, or only when you ask something from your Google Nest Hub to the Hue BT bulb?
  • What is the model of your smartphone?
  • In addition to rebooting and clearing cache in your Google Nest Hub, what other troubleshooting steps have you taken?
  • Your mobile device is updated?
  • You're using the most recent version of the Google Home app.
  • The Nest speaker or display is within 15-20 ft (4-6 m) of the Wi-Fi router.

Thank you for your attention. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Jeremy

Hi there!

Thanks for your reply.
I’m sorry to hear about all the inconvenience that you’ve been having with your Nest hub and Hue bulb light. Thanks for all the information that you shared, it’s really helpful. Let’s troubleshoot this together.

As I understand that the Nest hub is not able to turn on the light but it works through the Hue app, then I will need you to try the next steps:

  1. Unlink the Hue app from the Google Home app.
    1. Open the Google Home App.
    2. Tap Devices, then go to Add, and finally hit on Works with Google Home.
    3. Select the device maker from the list and select the option for unlink.
  2. Link the apps again.
    1. Open the Google Home App.
    2. Tap Devices, then go to Add, and finally hit on Works with Google Home.
    3. Select the device maker from the list.
    4. To complete the setup, follow the in-app steps.
  3. Try again to control the light with the Nest hub or the Nest mini.
  4. If it is still presenting the same issue, let's create two automations, one to turn on this light and another to turn off the same light.
    1. Open the Google Home App.
    2. Tap automations, then go to Add and finally select Personal.
    3. To name your routine, tap Untitled.
      1. If you add a voice starter before you name your routine, the voice starter becomes the name.
    4. Add the starters and actions.
      1. In the first routine, you can create a starter like “turn on Hue” and select the action of turning on that specific light.
      2. And for the second routine, you can create another starter, like “turn off Hue,"  and select the action of turning off that specific light.
    5. Tap Save.

Please check the following article: Create and manage Routines for Google Home automations for further information.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel.

Hello Daniel,

Unfortunatlely, both appraoches failed

1. I cannot link the hue account with my google account, beacuse i'm not using the bridge. When I'm trying to do it I get a message "to control your hue system with a thrid party app (google home) you need to have a hue bridge linked with a hue home". i'm using a bluetooth bulb. So the bulb can be only added via " choose a device - google nest or partner device - seemless set up with a google home up"

It works fine with Nest Mini, it doesn't work with Nest hub - this is the problem i'm trying to solve!

2. Autimations work with Nest Mini, the moment I move Mini to another room, I can't control the light, even though Nest Hub is next to it

Please help me solve the connection between Nest hub and the light. There's no issue with Nest mini and the light

Hi there!

Thanks for your reply.
And thanks for the clarification. I understand that your Hue light works perfectly when you are using the Nest mini, but when trying to control it using the Nest Hub 1st generation, it does not respond. No worries, let's find a solution together.

Then let’s try the next steps:

  • Restart your Nest Hub.
  • Ask to your Nest hub to re-sync your lights by saying the voice command, "Hey Google, sync all devices."

If your Google Assistant on your Nest hub is still having trouble controlling your lights, choose the scenario below that matches your current naming scheme and try renaming your device in the Google Home app.

  1. If you're controlling lights that are connected to plugs or switches, add the word <light> to the name of the device.
  2. If your device name includes a room name (example: Kitchen light,) try removing the room name from the device by renaming the device.
  3. If your device name includes numbers or special characters (example: The #1 Lights,) try renaming the device and removing numbers and special characters.
  4. If you have two devices with the same name (example: Table light up and Table light down,) try renaming one of the devices.

If still not working, you can try to factory reset your Nest hub and set it up back to your account.

You can check the following articles for further information: Use smart lights with Google Nest or Home devices and Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel.
