Can't set alarm on Insignia Google Home Alarm Clock

doctorwizz

I have several Insignia Google Home's that were sold by BestBuy. Yesterday, Nov. 16 I lost the ability to set alarm on all of them. It worked for years. Now, it keeps repeating, "What's the day and time". Nothing I say can set an alarm now. It still works on the GH mini's.

Seem like I can't set reminders now either.

Unplugging does not fix.

Any ideas on how to fix?

I have the same device and it also started having the same problem on Nov 16.  I noticed there was a new Google Home update pushed out on my phone on the same day.   I've tried reboot, unplugging and replugging it in, removing it from my home in google home, performing a full factory reset, and changing the language.  None of these have a positive effect.  I've noticed that you can set an alarm for the present day if you say the time and "today", but "tomorrow" doesn't work, so this isn't helpful.

Google has notoriously bad support and this may be their way of creating more e-waste, so given other bad experiences, I am not hopeful.

BTW, I think the real name of the device is Insignia Voice™ Portable Speaker With Google Assistant Built in NS-CSPGASP2 / NS-CSPGASP2-C

I am having the exact same issue and it started on November 16th as well. Hoping something is resolved soon.

As a work-around, setting a timer still works, so you can say "set a timer for tomorrow at 7 am".   The "AL" won't light up, but it should still wake you up.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for sharing details about the issue here. I've duplicated this thread for a similar issue. Please note that we have very limited support for third-party speakers with built-in Google Assistants like Insignia. If rebooting and resetting your device did not resolve the issue, I suggest that you contact the Insignia support team for better assistance. Please note that once moved. this original thread will be locked.

Cheers,

Muddi

Why you are ignoring such huge issue and not replying to this topic

Same issue here. This is an issue caused by Google, Insignia doesn’t push updates for these devices. I use Google branded for the rest of my house, but they don’t make an alarm clock so I’ve relied on this. Think it’s time I ditch Google and try something else.

Same issue with four of these Insignia speakers.  I also did the same reboot and reset several times.  It answers all other requests such as turning off my TV.

I figured out how to force it.  I have four Insignia clock speakers that around mid-november stopped allowing me to set the date for an alarm.  If I say set the alarm for 5am tomorrow it just keeps saying "what is the date and time for the alarm".   If I tell it specifically November 21, 2023 @6:00 am, it sets it finally but for 1 am.  I am in EST, so if I get specific again and say November 21, 2023 @11:00 am in response to the "What date and Time" question it keeps giving me, it will set it for 6 am.  So, it is 5 hours off for me.  It like all other Google display/speaker devices normally needs only a generic statement like  " set an alarm for tomorrow at 6 am".  All other commands are working such as shutting off my Google TV.  There is a nest community group where there are 20 to 30 others that have stated the same issue.  I have completely reset the clock 3x and poker cycled it.

I sent the above statement as  an email to Insignia support.  You probably should as well to get them moving on this.

I have also reached out to Insignia. Let me know if you make any headway there. I’ll do the same.

How do I reach out to Insignia, as I also have this problem?  We have 4 of these in the house, and on Nov 16th, they all lost the ability to set an alarm.

Sad, because that's what we use them for.  Alarm clocks in the bedrooms.

You can also ask it..."Hey, Google set alarm for 6 am Eastern Standard Time"...

I am glad I am not the only one with this problem.  I couldn't figure out what I had done.  Been using four of these (2 big, 2 little) for years now.  They are great for the beside.  I will try and use the word "Set a timer for 7am" and see if that works for me.  I hope they correct this soon.

I can also attest to having this issue on 4 of these insignia speakers in my home. Please correct or offer a rollback!

Giving it the command "the day after today at (time)" worked for me. I sent the email to the support department and the advise they gave me it's to take it to the technician but depending on the cost it would be better to get a new one. Doesn't make sense to replace it whe it still works perfectly besides the alarm issue that should be easily solved by them. They just want us to buy a new one.

That seemed to have worked for me. At least it set it and showed the correct alarm time. I will know know more at 5 am tomorrow.

'The day after today at (time)" worked for me and it did not set the alarm to Greenwich time like my method.   I am still hoping that  Insignia fixes their Google API connection.

Awesome, that did work. Thank you I was getting ready to throw it out the window

Yep, All four of our Insignia Alarm Clocks with Google Assistant no longer allow us to set an alarm.  I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure it out.  Resetting the app, clearing cache, resetting the device, etc.

If Insignia is going to blame Google (which makes sense since I think it was a google update that was pushed) and Google is going to blame the vendor, it's going to taint the trust of the entire "supports Google Home" market.

Save here, three insignia clock can’t set alarm.  Just prompted for date over and over.  Any updates?

Best work around seems to be adding “for the day after today” when saying set an alarm and the time. It’s a pain, but it at least works again for the time being.

Contact insignia customer support at the following email: insignia at bestbuy dot com

Be your model number and if you have proof of purchase they might ask for that also.

It looks like the Google Home Assistant can't set the night-time dimming either under the device setting Notifications & Digital Well Being- Night Mode.  I set it last night and it did not work.

Anyone come up with a workaround to set an alarm for every day at a certain time? I don't want to have set the alarm every day.

Update: actually I just figured it out." Set alarm for every day of the week at 10:00 p.m." worked.

None of these would work: Set alarm for 10:00 p.m. everyday, set alarm every day at 10:00 p.m., set alarm for weekdays at 10:00 p.m.

While the latest Google update has still broke my device, I am able to use every day and weekdays, such as "Hey google set an alarm weekdays at 8 am" or "Hey google set an alarm every day at 8 am".

We're having the exact same problem, but with Altec Lansing, not Insignia. (I don't use Nest, just joined the discussion for this issue). The "day after today" workaround is helping.

Apparently I have both Insignia and Altec Lansing. Both are having the issue.

Proof that this is a Google problem!

Time to buy Alexa devices if Google does not fix this. I got one already. Works great!

Despite Google denying this, it was always known that it is google's fault.  Only Google pushes out updates, not these companies.  You'll notice that the support here just deflects and never helps.  Google broke another Lenovo device that I had with a different "update" that Google pushed out.  Years later Google hasn't fixed it and doesn't care.  I think it is part of their program to create e-waste thinking you'll buy something new from them.  They don't realize that this sours people on Google products as much as the other manufacturer.

I'm having the same problem setting the alarm as others here. I set alarm for 5AM but it sets for midnight. Have there been any updates or fixes. Thanks.

It is set based on GMT, so add 5 hours to the time you want the alarm, ie: to set the alarm for 5:00 a.m. ask for an alarm for 10:00 a.m.

If you state "set alarm for day after today at 5:00 a.m."  it should set for the correct time locally for tomorrow at 5:00 a.m.

Also, contact Insignia support so we have lots of people complaining about the issue.
