For the last two days I cannot receive BBC Radio on my nest mini. I ask for them to be played and recieve the response that they are playing but no sound emerges. Commercial radio e.g. Classic FM, works ok.

Since Saturday my Mini Nest will not play any BBC Radio Stations. No problems with any other stations including overseas. Chris

I have 2 mini speakers both were working perfectly till earlier this week. 1 refuses to connect to any BBC radio stations the other was fine. I tried to connect to the problem one through the app but it will not see either speaker. I tried to reset the problem one and now left with a useless speaker that will not do anything.  I tried connecting with my iPad, iPhone se, iPhone 11 and my old iPhone nothing will connect.

Update, I tried an old iPhone SE the apps have not been updated as I don’t use it, successful it now connects and everything works fine. I can only assume that the last app update is to blame.  Please sort it Google.

Just realised how to do Factory Reset. All BBC radio channels now working but lost ABC News Australia; trying to add to App. Chris

Update 13-Oct-21: Google home player is now working again with BBC stations.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TLDR: Google s/w devs are aware of this issue and working on a fix that will be pushed OTA.

Google home will not stream BBC stations to itself. I have a number of Chromecast devices connected to speakers around the house, I can tell Google Home to stream BBC Radio 1 on one of the chromecast devices and that works OK, for example, say to google home 'stream radio 1 on living room speaker' and that works. If I say 'stream radio 1' to the google home device it replies 'streaming BBC radio 1 from the BBC' but nothing plays. If Itell the Google Home to 'Stream Heart UK' it will play that OK responding 'Streaming Heart UK on global player' and music starts to play.
If I say the same to one of the Mini speakers, then they play BBC radio 1 OK.

Further diagnostics show that even though BBC stations won't play,  the Google Home app on the tablet and phone show the Google Home Speaker in the paused state with BBC radio 1 being 'played'. The controls in the app have no affect whilst it is in this state.

This appears to affect only BBC stations.

I have reset the Google Home device using 15 second press of mic button, and also the other method of power off/on 10 times.

This has been a fault since Friday 8th October, prior to this BBC stations played OK on the Home speaker.

System firmware version: 264660

Cast firmware: 1.56.264660

Update 11/Oct/21

If anyone else is having the same problem, please do the same as me to send a fault report via your Google Home speaker. Instructions below.
I had a chat session with Google Support.  They are aware of this issue and advised me to do the following...
On phone or tablet, open the Google Home app > Tap on your Google Home Speaker > Settings > Recognition and sharing.
Turn on Send [device model] device usage and crash reports to Google. (Example: Send Google Home device usage and crash reports to Google.)
Command your Google Home device "Hey Google, send feedback. BBC radio stopped working.".

This will send feedback and a log to the support team and the s/w dev team.

Instructions from support...
Kindly keep your Google Home connected to the WiFi, updates and fix are sent over-the-air. The engineering team mentioned it will suddenly work and stop again, as the engineering team are still working on a stable fix.

same here..since friday as well !

Yes! Me too, also started Friday.

Oddly, if I factory-reset any Nest Mini and set it up again it will initially play BBC radio Ok - even stopping and starting again or changing radio station works.  However, if the device is left not playing for a few hours, the problem re-appears and it will not stream any BBC radio channels (other radio ok)

Me too since Friday, currently streaming to the home speaker from my phone which is not ideal......the Amazon echo works just fine so it's (probably) not a BBC sounds issue, so.......?

ok thank you, I’ve tried that. Did you get your radio back and working?

Not yet, the Google s/w devs are working on a fix. I will update when mine starts working again but suspect this may take a few days or a couple of weeks. Please report your issue as in my initial post, it will help increase the priority if more people report it.

same for me

Me too, since Friday 8th Oct 21. Emailed BBC Radio Scotland, who replied they had heard of a small number of cases but could not replicate it, advised me to do the reset via mic but no effect. Tried the power off/on thing no joy. Hey Google, we have a problem.

same thing - BBC radio won;t play on mini - accepts command and repeats it but then nothing happens. All worked fine until last week. very frustrating as radio was the mini's main purpose for me

Ghome started playing classical music this morning ~7:30 ish unprompted, so I tried "Play radio 4" and radio 4 is back! I guess the classical playing was a fix applied/test/working.....?

Issue has magically resolved for me overnight (i.e. now working a.m. 13 Oct). Without any factory reset.

My nest mini suddenly started playing BBC radio again today!

Either something random or Google/BBC have fixed it.

Looks like it has been sorted out! I'm getting all BBC stations again this morning. Let's hope it lasts!

Issue is resolved, Google Home speaker is working again.

Not for me unfortunately. It briefly came back two days ago but nothing since. Clearly the issue has been resolved for some users, but not all.

I hope that service is restored for you soon.

Last night I noticed the two other (barely used) Nest Mini Gen1s I had were working fine. The System Firmware versions (264660) and Cast Firmware (1.56.264660) are the same on all three. So I swapped the non-working (used every day) with one of the barely ever used working one, moved their rooms in the Home App, went to stream BBC R4 on the usual group (one hub, one mini) and really confusingly the moved and non-working one started to work, but now in the wrong room. The group had altered itself to follow the actual device. So, edited the group to use the barely used one, it also worked as I was hoping. So, intrigued, I swapped them back to their original positions and re-jigged the group again, and the original non-working one was working in its original place.....so I reckoned just moving the non-working out the group or switching the room seemed to fix it. Then I woke up and found all the messages here saying it was all now working...so stuff knows.

This was all just last night so I suppose it could all stop working by the tomorrow. Anyway try doing some room / group switching if you are still having problems.

Hi, just to let you know, since this morning the BBC radio stations are working again on both my devices. Checking the cast firmware they are both still at 1.56.264660, so no idea what has fixed it; maybe the BBC?

I tweeted about the problem, i.e. BBC radio stations playing as usual on one of my speakers, but not at all on the other. Other streaming, such as Spotify or non-BBC radio all working fine. Also, casting from phone working fine.

@MadeByGoogle responded, I repeated all the above and told them about this group with many people experiencing the same issue.

Finally, they said to restart my router and the speakers. Both speakers are working as normal now.

I think there has been an update, and a reboot is needed to make sure it refreshes.

I'm still keeping an eye on it!

I have rebooted my router and both my speakers play BBC radio now. 😊

It seems to be working again this morning.

I might go and find my old FM radio though, that never stopped working for a whole week!

I had this issue, but as of today it appears to be resolved. Worth noting that I did nothing, so whatever resolved it was done centrally. Worth trying again To see if your device behaves the same.

Hi Thesingletons,

Thanks for sharing your update as well. As I have not received any new reports of this issue recently, I will go ahead and lock this thread. As always, if any of you have any new questions or concerns, please feel free to make a new post. Thank you and have a nice day!
