Cannot tell time or weather

I'm having the same problem as a closed post from last year 

 

Copy paste here : 

3 Google Nest Mini speakers in my house and recently all 3 of them lost the ability to tell me the time of day or the weather. They all used to function normally until about 2 months ago. I'm guessing an update was pushed out and broke the functionality to my devices?

 

 

 

When I say the command "What time is it", it now replies "According to Wikipedia, Time is the continued sequence of existence and events that occurs in an apparently irreversible succession from the past, through the present, into the future."

 

 

 

When I say the command "What's the weather", it now replies "Sorry, I don't understand".

 

Even when I press weather widget on my nest hub it replies with " I'm sorry I don't understand" and doesn't launch widget .

Hi Shirigami,

 

This certainly isn't the experience we want you to have and we're here to help. A few questions: are the one who did the set up? Is it under your personal Google account? If you ask your Nest speakers "Hey, Google! What's my name?", do they recognize you and say your name? What happens if you ask them your address? It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops. Restarting your phone might also help.

Hello I'm sorry for the late reply

 

Yes the issue still persist.

After about an hour of trying to resolve it with a Google representative, but no luck.

We have tried 

Resetting 

Changing home adress 

Changing language 

Removing device completely from home and adding back again 

After all this the representative tell med that it is aan known issue with developers and they are working on it , they have been given my details , but I haven't heard from them. 

So the short answer is , it's still not working , Google know about it and are working on it , there is no timeline how long it will take .

I'm sorry that you had to go ahead and contact phone support ― let's get to the bottom of this. A few more questions: when doing the reset, was it the same steps as what you find in this link? What's your current location? Do you happen to have a case number from the phone support representative that you spoke with? Let me check for any helpful information. In the meantime, try the steps below:

 

  1. On your computer, open Google Maps and make sure you're signed in.
  2. Click Menu > Your places > Labeled.
  3. Choose Home or Work.
  4. Type in your home or work address, then click Save.

 

Try the commands and tell me how it goes.

I have tried the maps thing that didn't help and also the reset thing as in the link same issue, it turns out that all weather and time is affected as my Google weather widget doesn't work on my android either it says " cannot fetch weather for current location" i have also tried a round about way of asking " what is the weather in Copenhagen right now " but the temputeres are wrong so I'm not sure what is up there .

I have been having the exact same issue with my 2 Nest minis and Nest hub.

Hello ninenrorfc,

 

I'm sorry it's that your Nest Mini and Nest Hub also cannot tell the time and the weather. There are steps and links above that you can do. Could you try the troubleshooting steps first and tell me the results?

Hey ninenrorfc,

 

Chiming in, could you try connecting your device to a different network like mobile hotspot to check if it will have the same behavior. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Google Home/Nest device).

No it doesn't  work if you connect to a hotspot.

Works if you ask: " What is the weather ,,,,," and you use the postcode. 

Just doesn't work when you just say "What's the forecast for today" or ~"What the weather like today" or the time. 

Deleted my home address reset everything including changing the name (SSID) and password for my WI-FI network network. Still no luck. It affects all devices even our phones and tablets when we are in the house.  Even if we disable Wi-Fi on our phones and use mobile network at home it doesn't work. It works everywhere else on our phones works using Android Auto in the car. Just something to do with our location at home.

Yep it's the exact same for me , tried all the steps and resetting and even changing adress to few number down the road didn't work 😞 my Google weather widget doesn't work either.

Hi folks,

 

We appreciate you taking the steps. Just one more try if you don't mind. Factory reset your Nest devices one last time and set them up using a different account, preferably with a Gmail domain.

 

Tell us how it goes after using a new account.

So I set up a brand new email and a brand new Google Home , factory reset one og my Google nests , added it to the new home ... Still the same.. did my casenumber helt at all i was told by CS rep that the devs were looking into this issue and that it is aparantly a known issue. 

This is ongoing for almost two months now:(

I'm sorry for the inconvenience you're having. While waiting for an update from our team, try the commands "Tell me the time" and "Tell me the weather". How about the command ‘What will the weather be like between <day> and <day>?’

Yeah just tested it and it's the same result " sorry I didn't understand " . The only workaround i have is asking " what is the weather like in Copenhagen, denmark right now " then it works .

No still no changes the only work around that work is stating country and city everytime , which is obviously isn't ideal 😅

Any work on my case I opened with support team ? I haven't hear back from them myself.
