Child calendar on nest

Teamlundhoff
Community Member

Hi, i want to set up a nest hub in a childs room and show her google calendar (or one of all my shared calendars) on the hub. Its to enable her to plan for her upcoming calendar events. I cant figure out how to do this. She is under the google age to have her own account without family link permissions. Ive set up all family link settings for the hub. I just am missing how to share specific calendar or keep info to her. Any tips how to do this (or workarounds) would be great.

Hi Teamlundhoff,

Thanks for visiting the Community. If you already have a family account linked to your Google Nest Hub, you may follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your account.
  3. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.
  4. Tap Assistant settings Calendar.
  5. Under “Your calendars,” the main Google Calendar associated with the Google Account and voice linked to your speaker or display is checked by default.
  6. Check the box next to other shared calendars you want to get events for.
  7. (Optional, English only) Under “Default calendar to create events,” choose the Google Calendar you want to add events to when you use voice commands. Note: Only shared calendars where you have "write" access will appear.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Princess

Hey Teamlundhoff,

I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Cheers,

Muddi

The above wont work because google hime doesnt allow a child under 13 to be added as an additiinal user in my home app. Every time i try i get a warning that i can only add children to devices and redirects me to add her to the device.

Above wouldnt even let me add her to her hub anway. I ended up having to find her Ipad and install google home onto it just so she would have her own google home app account and then add her devices. This is annoying since we dont want her to have the home app anywhere to control herself other than her hub and what would happen if she had no personal devoce yet?!

I also realized that once it was set up its useless to add calendars because she still has to prompt google to show it. There is no home view that always shows upcoming ebents or tasks. That was really what we were after 😞.

Hello there,

To make sure, you already added your child's account to your Family link account, right? Try using a family calendar on your Google.

Hope this helps.

Best,
Alex

Thanks. We have a family calendar but for some reason she cants see the family one so we had to create one for her. This is ok though since we only want her to see the items in the family calendar related to her. so we just create it in the family calendar and then add her as an invitee. Ideally, a future color coding system of who in the family is involved in which family calendar activities would be cool. but this workaround is fine for now.
