Does Google Nest hub function as a true smart hub like SmartThings?

I'm considering using Google Nest hub for controlling my smart setup, but I've read that some other hubs like hubitat or smartthings support multiple communications like zigbee and zwave.

if you're using nest hub as your primary controller, how well does it manage automation across different brands? any limitations? is Nest hub a good standalone choice or should it be paired with something else?

Hi @abraham90

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I see you have some questions about using the Nest Hub as your main smart home controller. I can definitely help with that!

I know how crucial it is to have a good smart home setup. I've found a helpful article called "Prepare your smart home for Matter" that explains all the relevant features. Just click the highlighted text to take a look. Additionally, remember to check the compatibility of any third-party devices you want to add with the Nest Hub. You can usually find this information in the technical specifications of those devices.

Feel free to ask if you have any other questions. I'm happy to help!

Best Regards,

Debora

Hi Debora! Thank you so much for your reply, I'll definitely check the article you mentioned. You're right about checking the specs on third-party devices. It's easy to overlook, but knowing which protocols they support can save a lot of hassle. I was actually reading up on how different hubs handle Zigbee, Z-Wave and other protocols and it made me wonder how nest hub stacks up when it comes to flexibility with cross-brand automation. this guide compares the hub types well and cleared things up for me. appreciate your help!
