Hi. Hoping someone can help. My Google Home (1st Gen) has never had any issues before. A couple of days ago it stopped responding to all voice commands. The unit recognises the "Hey Google" command with sound and visual acknowledgement but will not respond. No error messages are delivered. All other features work fine. I can cast audio, all lights working, adjust volume, etc, but the Google Assistant will just not respond. I have powered off/on, done a factory reset, ensured the mic is on and clear of debris, and worked through all troubleshooting steps I can see. I have checked the logs in the Home App>Settings>Privacy>Home Activity, but no voice commands I try are logged. Not sure if this is related to firmware 2.57.375114 which was released a few days ago or related to another issue. Hoping someone can suggest some other steps I could take to try to restore full functionality. Thanks.

Same issue but my google home does not even show the four lights on top! I have 5 home devices out of which 3 have stopped to respond to the hot word.

Any updates on this? I am not able to use three of my google homes to do anything

It's working now for me.

Hi there. Are there any updates?
What are the next steps?
Are we supposed to check this thread everyday, waiting for an answer..? Would really like a clear answer, if google is still interested in making this product work or not....
Thank you,

Doesn't work.
Thanks for trying though.

Thanks for the reply, Tony. It's somewhat reassuring to know the problem may be wider than just my device.
09-23-2023 12:52 PM
Exactly the same for me. Updated to 375114 and now doesn't work.
Did a lengthy chat with tech who eventually said they would replace even though out of warranty. They sent me an email asking for details and then changed their minds once they had the serial number.
I suspect the issue is bigger than they currently think.

I have the same problem, I live in Argentina and I tried to reset Google Home in several ways and the same result: it hears my voice, but it does not respond to the commands
10-10-2023 10:14 PM
yes we all hear your voice, and your not in Argentina 😉
10-11-2023 12:26 PM
My apologies by my english , I hope you undertand what i meant 😊

Mine too. Lights respond to voice, casting works from other devices, but will not answer me. Cannot set or check alarms etc. Have tried reboots and resets but still the same problem.

This seems like a fairly widespread problem that occurred in the past few days. Thanks for the suggestion to resolve this, Muddi. I will try this later today but I'm pessimistic after JediTony reporting this didn't resolve the issue.

Thanks for sharing your problem, I can see that I'm not alone!! I'm dealing with this issue since four days ago! I have done all the provided fixes but nothing changed! 😕
09-27-2023 04:23 AM
Have the same issue - contacted support and told no fix as out of warranty?
09-27-2023 06:08 AM
Yes same here on firmware
2.57.375114 |
hope they can patch it with an update.

Same issue for me too. Stopped responding earlier this week. Hears “Hey Google” but then doesn’t seem to compute voice commands. Just pulses then spins briefly anticlockwise. I can cast to it fine and scheduled routines work. Firmware 375114

I've had lots of communications with Google about this and they just suggest daft things to try, which don't work.
When asked directly if it was caused by the update and if it is possible to go back to the last version, all communication stops. They're not interested.

Just throwing my hat into the ring and saying myself and my partner have noticed this over the past week, even after saying "Hey Google" multiple times, she will only start listening after a few attempts.
10-01-2023 11:45 AM
Mine now keeps asking my to log in via Google home app.... I AM logged in. And my other speakers work fine
10-03-2023 01:09 PM
I've got the same issue. Any way to load and old version of the firmware on it?
10-03-2023 01:12 PM
Don't think so. I asked google tech support but they didn't give an answer. Just said they're working on a solution but have not time frame for a fix.
10-03-2023 07:42 PM
This is so bad, never expected Google to be slow. My 3 google homes do not respond to the hotwords and I need to control everything manually now.
10-04-2023 12:29 AM
My Google Home First Generation responding this morning!!
10-04-2023 01:23 AM
Hey Scotty. Great news. I tested mine at it also appears to be working again. It appears the firmware remains at the same version so maybe it was something on Google's server side rather than a firmware issue. Can anyone else corroborate that the issue is resolved?
10-05-2023 06:05 AM
Yay. Mine's now working again as well
10-04-2023 01:19 AM
All working again this morning!
10-04-2023 01:26 AM
Yeah it's working perfectly ^_^ thanks Google!
10-04-2023 08:26 AM
Still not working here, probably not got the update yet. What's funny is that if you speak in an exaggerated American accent, she listens 100% of the time. 😂 My dulcet British tones are lost on her.
10-04-2023 09:38 AM
Working here in Yorkshire.... and we definitely do not speak with an American (or British!!) accent.
What was odd is that when back from the shops it worked fine but still showed as offline in the app. So did one final factory reset

Hi all from a windy and rainy Scotland. Hurray My speaker started working today 4th Oct 23 after 3 weeks or so. Must be the bad weather 😄. Thanks to the support people if it was them that fixed it. Hopefully stays working now. Cheers
10-05-2023 03:38 AM
Seems to be working this morning, thanks all. 🙂
10-05-2023 08:52 PM
Yes same here started working this morning
10-07-2023 06:54 AM
I have the same issue. Google lights up but it doesn't reply after I give a command. What should I do?

Same problem here.
Cast firmware : 2.57.375114
Planned obsolescence?
10-09-2023 12:55 PM
Same issue here. Nest Hub Max not responding. Tried full reset but nothing works. Come on Google. Where's the fix!
10-11-2023 12:31 PM
I tell you, I live in Argentina . today my first generation Google Home went from being a beautiful multicolored paperweight to a true virtual assistant, work fine!!!! , thanks a lot!!!!!, Google team 😊
10-15-2023 08:51 AM
Unfortunately it stopped working again, it worked fine for 2 days and now it does not respond to voice commands again.
