Google Home completely broken from the Google update last week

Last Thursday, it seems Google pushed out an update that broke my Google Home device. It now shows just 4 lights and has lost all connectivity.

I see I am not the only one, it seems many have been impacted. My product was only in use 2 years or so and had no hardware issues - this seems to be a software update problem.

As such, is there any update from Google around a fix for this?

Ours has done the same!

Only realised this morning that it wasn't working. Tried disconnecting from WiFi, factory reset etc but still getting the same issue.

Unable to make contact with Google to find out what to do.

I was told on support chat that the engineers are working on the issue but that no resolution timeline is known. Honestly, if it is blocking the ability to boot entirely to the point that it's not able to get onto the wifi, I'm not sure that there can possibly be a solution for this. Hopefully they are able to provide us a way to force a new update onto the devices through the usb port as an internet enabled fix seems potentially impossible.

So far, they are ignoring the problem unfortunately.

I manged to speak to someone on chat. Our Goolge home is out of warranty so they won't help. They won't admit the software update caused this just that there's nothing they can do to help 😒

i got the same answer. 4 months after warranty and recommendation to buy a new device.

Here's hoping. I don't get why they do not provide any update though.

Think about the size of the user base effected. It's appears to me to be only people with gen 1 devices that also have opted into the Preview Program. I'm brought back to the scene in Fight Club when they're talking about vehicle recalls in the plane. If there's not enough people to complain about it, why talk about it at all.

I was basically told its no good and have to buy another. The Google home is no longer so I wonder if their trying to phase them out so people have to buy a new one.

My gen 1 got bricked after i did a software update on it. I have 4 lights showing solid. I can't factory reset it either. Support told me the engineers are aware of the issue, no timeline on resolution was provided.

Hi,

on the night between Tuesday 5 December and Wednesday 6 December my Google Home Mini 1st Gen device suddenly stopped. My device also has 4 white lights with no reset option. I also tried to force reset by unplugging and replugging the device 10 times but it doesn't work.
Ideas?

Same exact issue at the same time. Google Mini bricked itself overnight.
