Google Nest Audio "would you like a little more context?"

santillivince
Community Member

I'm on my second Nest Audio speaker after the first one unexpectantly bricked.  The issue I'm posting about is when I ask a question and get a reply it will ask me if I would like a little more context.  When I reply yes nothing happens.  This used to work of the box but has not worked for some time.  It used to reply with the same answer but now nothing?  What is the point of this?  I swear this is the buggiest device I've ever owned.  By the way I've searched Google for this and found nothing.  I'm hesitant to open a ticked for the because I feel it would be a waste of time.  Anyone else experience this?  I'm sure like most issues this was probably introduced by a buggy update and most likely will be fixed by one.  But this has been going on for quite a while.

I’m having the same issue on my nest mini speakers. started about a week ago. rebooted, etc, but still no bueno. I think they’re making some changes. They have to know this is an issue.

I experience the same problem but randomly it’s not a consistent thing. It drives me crazy to because I usually really do want that extra information.  The other thing that happens for me is that at times it will ask me if I would like more information and then it repeats what it already said which is hardly more information. It’s more like same information over and over.  Very frustrating.!!

Hey folks,

What is the make and model of your phone? Could you provide us with the list of questions where you got that response from your Google Nest Audio? This is for me to reproduce the issue on my end.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi

My phone is a Pixel 5.  I can't recall any specific questions where it asked me for more context but every time it does I say yes and get no response.  You just have to keep asing it questions. It will eventually ask if you want more context.  It depends on the type of question you ask I suppose.  Not just a simple yes or no type question.

The only thing it won't reply back to is when it asks me "Do you want a little more context" and I reply yes. But I answer yes to other questions it asks and it will reply back.

same problem here it use to respond with a little more context can’t figure out why it is doing this

My Google Assistant on the nest is now answering my reply of YES to the question do I want more context. Yay!!

Ask it what type of dog is an English settler.

Last night when it asked me if I wanted more context I said no and it replied OK. So it seems to react to No but not yes.

It scans after hearing yes. But then defaults to the standard silence like it had misheard hearing yes.

Hey Deirene,

Thanks for sharing all the information. Once you experience the issue, it is best to send feedback using your device by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback" followed by a brief description about the issue. Also, make sure that device usage and crash reports are enabled. Visit this link or follow the steps below to know-how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your account.
  3. Tap Feedback > tap the type of device you'd like to submit feedback for.
  4. To display available emails, in the "From:" section, tap the arrow on the right. Select your email address.
  5. In the feedback summary, write a brief description of your issue.
  6. Be sure to check the box for Screenshot and System logs.
  7. To submit feedback, at the top right corner, tap Send.

Let me know once done.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey folks,

I'm just checking on this thread. Do you still have the same issues on your devices? If so, please let us know what specific model of Google Home/Nest device you have, together with the firmware version. Also, it is best if you could provide a sample of commands where you got the response.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi, Muddi. I'm happy it's back to its old self, too. And, I bet the engineers are even happier. No more bitchin' from all of us. 😉 Have a good day.

Happens with me too.   There have been a couple of issues that started all around the same time about 2 months ago.

Same issue for a few months.  Tried every conceivable method to correct it.

Nothing more frustrating than expecting more "context" and getting nothing.

Google should just turn off "More Context" completely until this issue is fixed.

Other problem is the Google Speaker switches from my selected male voice to the female default voice only when I ask it the time, all these issues seemed to happen following daylight savings winter automatic update.

Hi folks,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you ― let's check it out. I know you've done the reboot already however, it would really be of big help if you could do a sequential reboot on all your devices. Unplug the power cord for your router followed by your Nest devices. Restarting your phone might also help. If the issue persists, how about if we consider doing factory reset to revert your devices back to its default and original settings. Set it back up afterwards.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

None of those suggestions worked.

Hey santillivince,

Chiming in, do you experience the same issue when you using the Google Assistant app on your phone? How often does it happen? Also, what is the current firmware version of your Nest Audio?

I'll wait for your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

My phone does not ask if I would like more context.  It happens every time now.  It used to just repeat the same answer but now says nothing.  This used to work fine but not for some time now.  When I look at My Activity.  It acknowledges that I answer yes.  Then it posts a link to my phone.  So perhaps that is where I'm expected to get the extra context instead of answering on my speaker?  I'm just speculating.  My current firmware for my speaker is 324896.

Also under My Activity when I answer yes it posts the same answer but it is not audible on my speaker.

Hi santillivince,

Thanks for the reply. It would also help a lot of you can confirm if your Google Assistant's voice also changes? We need to have this isolated for us to know what the next steps would be.

Thanks,

Dan

No it does not.

I’ve done all of this multiple times.

it does not work. This is clearly an issue on googles end that they need to fix.

Ima bout ready to sling this Google Nest thru my window! It's hard to believe a company like Google couldn't have this issue fixed by now. I've tried everything they told me to do, I've supplied the info they've wanted with no results.

Same issue.

Hi folks,

It would be of big help for us to know what your current firmware versions are. Please include the type of Nest speaker you have and its firmware. Could you check it out, please? Here's how.

Kind regards,

Dan

If the assistant ask me "do I want to hear the answer" it will reply back to my yes. It's only when it asks if I want more context that I get no reply to my yes. I checked my activity and it shows the issue started Dec 17th. Also here recently I had the android 13 software update but don't remember the exact day.

Hi folks,

@Deirene, may I ask if you've already tried to factory reset your Nest Audio? It should revert it back to its default and original settings. Setting it back up is needed. It would also help a lot if you could ask a different question or command and see what happens.

Keep us posted.

Thanks,

Dan
