Google Nest Hub - Default TV issue

AlexanderM
Community Member

I have a Google Nest Hub a Google Nest Mini  and a Samsung TV. I have set up the TV on Smart things and linked it to my Google account. I see the TV on my Google home app but can only turn it on or off from there.

On my Google Nest mini I can set the Samsung TV as the default TV in the Google home app but I cannot set it as the default TV on commands given to my Nest Hub as it doesn't show up as one of the options. Is this a known issue ?

I have a Samsung TV on Smarthings too with a number of Nest Audio speakers, Nest Minis, a Nest Hub Max and a Nest Hub 2. The only thing I can do with the TV is turn it on and off. It gets set up as a switch in Smarthings.

I'be just looked at the default TV in the Nest Hub 2 and Nest Hub Max andy Samsung TV doesn't show up at all. I wonder if it is because they have screens built in?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

I appreciate all the details you've shared. I'd like to know if this has been going from the start, are other commands worked before? If the TVs are linked successfully, could you please confirm if you have tried these commands?

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

Hey AlexanderM,

Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. To confirm, do you have a cast-enabled or Android TV? Please note that only the devices listed below can be set as your preferred TV on the Google Home app. Visit this link for your reference.

  • Chromecast (1st gen), Chromecast, or Chromecast Ultra
  • Android TV
  • TV with Chromecast built-in

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey Muddi,

I have a QE49Q60RA which I believe by the specs it's an android TV.

Let me know if I'm correct or missing something

Thanks

Hey AlexanderM,

Thanks for the added information. Upon further checking, your TV doesn't have a built-in Chromecast and Google Assistant. Here's the link for your reference. It has casting capability but only when using Samsung phones/tablets or need to download a third-party app to use it but it's not compatible with Google Nest Nest devices. You might want to double check it with the manufacturer.

Also, you can only set a device (TV or speakers) as default if you set it up directly to the Google Home app and not from a partner apps.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey Princess, I tried those commands some worked some didn't. But on the Nest Hub I still can't set my TV as the default TV. Any fix for that?
