Somebody please tell me why it will not respond to touch commands on the screen but only responds to voice commands half of the time.

Hi,
Hmmm, that sounds frustrating for sure.
Try giving that Google Nest Hub Max a factory reset and see if that clears up the issues you are having. On the back of Nest Hub Max, press and hold both volume buttons together for about 10 seconds. Your Nest Hub Max will let you know that it's resetting. I would also suggest giving the screen a good wipe down just in case there is any debris interfering with the touch sensors.

Even the factory reset did not work! I can you the touch screen for any other purpose but it still will not control the lights! I shows it turns on (off) but then the indications goes back to on (off) without changing the light.

I have similar issues where the responsiveness of the smart home controls in the google home app and on the nest hubs is sometimes slow and or unresponsive. where sometimes i will hit the on off button on a light for instance and the status will change on the screen but the status of the light won't change. I'd love to see future updates help with the responsiveness of smart home controls

its not particularly helpful but when I set up and used home assistant the server monitored the status of the lights and would communicate directly with the light and change it and try again if it didn't succeed
