Google Nest Hub on private network with AP Isolation

Gretings,

Father-in-law loved his Google Nest Hub for sport's score and karaoke at his former assisted living center where I had to have them disable AP iolation on the wifi network during setup.  New assisted living center refused to disable AP isolation even for the few minutes it takes to setup the device with your phone.

Is it possible to connect his Chromebook to their wifi and  then somehow connect and share this connection with his android phone and Nest Hub to the chromebook, at least long enough for the configuration to allow the Nest Hub to connect to the assisted living center's WIFI or just continue to use the Chromebook as a bridge between their secured WIFI network and his Nest Hub?

Hi klharless,

Thanks for visiting the Google Nest Community. Using the Chromebook to behave as the router (connected to the Wi-Fi) may work, but the Chromebook needs to stay on. Another option you can try is to add the Google Nest Hub device and the set-up phone’s MAC address to the whitelist of the Wi-Fi network, just for the initial set-up, so the phone and Google Nest Hub can meet on the same network. Check with the new assisted living center to see if they can do that.

To get Google Nest Hub’s MAC address:

  • Go through the set-up steps in the Google Home app.
  • From the Connect to Wi-Fi screen, tap the 3 dots located in the top right corner.
  • Tap Show MAC Address.

Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Best,
Alex
