Google Nest Hub will not power up

Main Problem: My Google Nest Hub was working fine and I unplugged it in the Spring, only to plug it back in now with power and it does not power up, only makes a pulse hum sound.  The screen stays black. I have tried factoring resetting and it did not help.

Back story that may or may not help of another problem: Before that point it was crashing all the time, which I think is related to the raise of http v3 udp multicasting on the network flooding it forcing a reboot when on a corporate network yet worked fine at my home. Even after google pushed the OS conversion to the nest hub, it still crashed all the time on the corporate network when a lot of people were around due to udp multicast flooding the nest causing kernel panics. So design fault/bug.

Note: the hub nest does not run Android, yet was the closest option to choose.

Hello xeoron,

Thanks for reaching out. My apologies for the late response. I know how challenging it is not to have a working device when needed. To confirm, are you using the official power adapter that came with the Nest display? How many Google Nest Hubs do you have? Also, when and where did you purchase your device?

Let's try these steps below:

  1. Plug your Nest Hub into a different wall outlet.
Note: Make sure that you're not using a surge protector to rule out all other hardware.
  2. Discharge your Nest Hub:
    1. Unplug the power adapter from the outlet and the Nest display.
    2. Leave it unplugged for 20 seconds.
    3. Plug the power adapter into the Nest display.
    4. Plug the other end of the power adapter into a wall outlet that works.
    5. Check if any LED lights would appear on your Nest display.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi Muddi,

Happy Holidays

  1. I still have and only use the original charger & only use that.
  2. I have left it on plugged for over 12 hours and tried again,, 30 seconds and 1 minute, still never powers up, just makes a pulse audio sound... using your directions.
  3. No LED is lighting up
  4. I have 2 google nest hub (if my smart speaker counts).
  5. Note: since httpv3 nest hub crashes constantly if there are many devices on the network at the same time I started to use it way less until google fixes the bug or when less people at work are around. Causes some type of kernel panic from udp multicasting, even after Google upgraded the OS to a different one last year.  Only noticeable on a corporate network. Home network no issues. I was using it for music and live conversation language translation at work until it was the crashing all the time due to the network kernel bug. This has been a issue since httpv3 went live and google flipped the switch for support in Chrome/websites
  6. Has not worked with powering up since June of this year. Worked in June, and after many months unpowered at work fired it up this Fall and will not power up with a audio pulse just happening with it sitting by my desk for months unplugged.
  7. Purchase order:  from google store June 29, 2019

Hey there,

Thank you for providing all the information. After going through all the troubleshooting steps for your issue, it seems that the best course of action would be to replace the device. Unfortunately, since it is no longer covered by our limited warranty, we are unable to provide a replacement. We understand that this may not be the answer you were hoping for, but if you have any other questions, please let us know, and we'll be glad to assist you.

Cheers,

Are your newer devices still broken with corporate networks crashing it due to http v3 udp multicasting crashing it all the time? Because if so, I rather only get one if Google provides it as a offical tester to aid in the fixing of the critically broken/buggy/not usable product. I wanted to use it for live translation and music playing at work and I can not do either when it crashes every few minutes due to udp kernel panics rebooting it all the time.
