Google Nest Mini Sleep command

JohnMcGeough
Community Member

Up until the last couple of days I could instruct my mini nest to “sleep in 20 minutes” and 20 minutes later is would stop. But now it although it acknowledges the command, it keeps on playing after the time period. I have tried saying “stop in 20 minutes”  as well as specifying an actual time, but all to no avail. I have two speakers, and they both are doing the same.
Does anyone know what has changed?

Here’s what support is saying

We have been made aware of reported issues with the Sleep Timer. We’re looking into possible solutions. For the meantime, we would like you to send a feedback about this issue with the steps provided below.

1. Turn on device usage data and crash reports:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Select the device card to share feedback about.
  • At the top-right, select Settings and then Recognition and sharing.
  • Turn on Send [device model] device usage and crash reports to Google. (Example: Send Google Home device usage and crash reports to Google.)
    • Note: For iOS devices, turn on Send device usage and crash reports.

2. Reproduce the issue (Try setting a sleep timer). After the issue occurred, send feedback from the speaker device via voice command (OK Google, send feedback) then say the keywords "GHT3 sleep timer not working".

I hope everyone is doing well. We're happy to confirm that we've rolled out a fix for this behavior. Are you still experiencing the Sleep Timer feature issue? We would like to know so we can follow up with the team.

Looking forward to your responses.

Thanks for the help, I’ve followed your instructions and it does not work.

Also done a cold boot of my Google device and mobile device and this issue remains for me.

Any chance you could make this as unanswered as it's an open bug impacting a lot of people with many different threads on the topic.  This issue has also been open for months and is only getting worse.

Before I spend more money on more Google products, I would love an answer. This has been an issue for the past week in my kids rooms. Generally speaking I love my smart Google products, but if we continue to have issue like I did with Google WiFi loosing connectivity and outdoor floodlights being IMPOSSIBLE to easily reset with physically touching a very high installed outdoor light, I will reconsider my dedication to Google products.

Same problem. At bedtime, I told my speaker to stream BBC World service for thirty minutes, received acknowledgement, then was awakened at 4:30 AM by gunshots on a news report.

It's really very surprising and disappointing that a company with the resources and expertise of Google hasn't been able to fix this by now.   I appreciate that our Community Specialists have escalated this, but I still have not seen any kind of official acknowledgement or response from the company itself. They're the ones who have made lots of money on products that are currently pretty much unusable for one of their crucial functions.

I also now have the same problem. I'm glad the team is aware and working on a fix.

You are saying that you are investigating the issue but another "specialist" has yet again claimed that its working fine and you totally got feedback saying people want sounds to play forever - so what is it?

It's fraud. That's what it is.

I'm having the same issue. I've had a bedtime routine set up for years where I go to sleep listening to the radio and my Home device (Lenovo smart clock) would stop playing after 60 minutes. For the last several days this no longer works and the radio is playing all night - waking me up during the night!

So why don't they just roll back the firmware to the last working version until they figure out what they wrecked in the latest update? This is extremely annoying. If it is not corrected soon I will have to consider replacing these with Alexa units. I like my Google hardware, but this stupid bug should have been caught before the firmware was released. I have seen dozens of others complaining vigorously and a fix should have happened a week ago.

We all agree but it seems anymore you REALLY have to make a huge noise to get their attention. I also love Google but am not willing to switch, so I have been screaming very loud and at least got a statement that they are aware and working on it from @madebygoogle. That is better than these so called Community Members who are worthless liars.

I'm thinking the same! Really annoying. This is probably the one thing I find useful about the Google Home stack. It's basic stuff but really useful for me. I could buy a £5 clock radio in the old days to do this!

I’ve got a better idea. instead of repeatedly sending crash reports on equipment that seems to be working as intended when the issue has nothing to do with the app or speaker but at Googles end, why don’t just send all our speakers in……then they can work on it all they want ! With our refunds we can purchase something else.

I LOVE IT!! A bottom line man! Make them hurt!

I think I’m going to buy just one Amazon Echo for the bedroom and wait till there is a fix on the Google speakers.

My work around is still working. I have too much invested in all my products to do that.

I made it work using the BEDTIME Routine as follows:

edit bedtime routine as follows;

adjust media volume (I use 2)
Tell me tomorrows weather
set alarm (if you do not an alarm respond -no alarm
play music - answer with song or artist
add wait time before next command - I use 30 minutes
ad next command to use after wait time, use - Stop Playing.

Once the music starts you can say "Hey google play "artist" or "song" of your choice that is different than your choice in the routine and it will still work if you wand to vary the music for that evening.

I have been using the bedtime routine now for two weeks and it is working!

It’s fixed! Thank goodness!

My sleep sensing use to answer my question hey google how did I sleep lastnight with a response of was restful or

not and now it does not how do I getresponse back? back?

Good point.

We have all already done this except the crash report. It would show nothing because the app and phones are not crashing.

If I set “play BBC World Service for 20 minutes” it has always shut off after 20 minutes.  My device now says “Sorry I don’t understand” when the timer ends.  It says this despite nothing being said to Google and the room is completely silent.  This suggests that the device is receiving an instruction silently in the background from Google, but the instruction has changed and is not now recognized. Same on our other devices and same problem reported by others.  Hope you can fix this quickly.

Had this issue for over two weeks now... It's really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really annoying like this post I just wrote! Sort it out please

August for me.

I really don't think anyone is optimistic about this response.  Google simply do not fix customer issues, unlike other products

Genuinely thinking of getting a cheap Echo in any new year sale to see if I can be tempted to replace all 5 of my Google assistant products, so sick of being unable to get any useful support to problems.

Since Google has effectively disabled a key feature of its product, and many of us can no longer get our money back from the original sellers due to the length time since the original purchase, maybe Google will be willing to take these back themselves and to refund us directly.

I take PayPal, if that helps.

They have not disabled it or the page where you choose the sleep sound would not say it will automatically end. There is an issue with all timers even outside of the Google Home app. Another clue, I also use "Pinned Scores" where teams I follow show a bubble automatically. When the bubble pops up saying the start time of the game they are on the wrong time zone. So just about everything to do with times and timers has a big bug.

Well I'm giving up on my Lenovo smart clock until this gets fixed. I have the Alexa app on my phone and will be using this to set a sleep timer each night so I can get to sleep listening to the radio and it will currently turn off after 60 minutes - which seems too difficult a task for Google currently.

I also have the same issue as everyone else. Started at same date as others too.

Hi folks,

We haven’t received any updates from our team about sleep timers that aren’t working for turning off music at the specified time. Our team is aware of this behavior, and they are still working on a fix.

The team is investigating sleep timers for music not working as intended, but it looks like some older conversations about ambient sleep sounds were merged in this one-- sorry for any confusion! Ambient sleep sounds previously turned off after one hour when part of a bedtime routine, but a couple of months ago, Google made the decision to remove the end time based on user feedback. This behavior is intended, and we're currently investigating ways to build a comparable solution. Hope this helps explain!

To keep up with updates for sleep timers not turning off music, keep an eye on the recommended answer on this thread. If you're experiencing something different, feel free to create a new post.

Thanks for bearing with us!

Best,

Juni

Been waiting for 2 weeks now for this to be fixed. Surely the biggest company in the world can fix a tech glitch faster than this. When will this be fixed? I want a refund on all my devices for not doing what they say they are going to do
