Two days ago I was playing Spotify on my phone when I realized there was an option to listen via my Google Nest using Google Cast. It connected perfectly and there were no issues.
Today my husband and I realized our Nest was showing a blank white screen instead of the photo album we set up through the Photo Frame. When I tried to edit the display on our Google Home app it showed the display as “not playing” with the volume percentage as if it was still connected to Spotify.
We have tried everything to reset it to the Photo Frame short of factory resetting it. We’ve changed the display, we’ve told it to disconnect from Spotify, we have played Spotify again through the Google Cast and then stopped and fully closed Spotify on the phone. Nothing works. All it shows is a blank white screen and the “not playing” message when we view the display through the app. It seems to think it is displaying our Photo Frame but it isn’t. Any one else had this issue or know any workarounds that won’t require a factory reset? We got the Nest when we installed an ADT system and the installer took care of linking it to our ADT system so we really do not want to mess with that if at all possible, but the blank white screen is an eyesore and extremely frustrating.

The photo on the screen freezes and didn't change. If I swipe the screen or give Google a command while it is frozen, the screen will sometimes go blank, either white or black, and the assistant doesn't want to respond. Photos also freeze on both of the Gen 2 hubs we have but the screen doesn't go blank when we show it while the pictures is frozen.
Troubleshooting I've done on ALL hubs
Unplugged the device multiple times waiting a few minutes before plugging back in.
Delete it from the Home App, uninstalling the home app, and reinstalling it, and adding the device back in
factory reset the Max
I don't know if this is related, but the Max also won't let me sign into the nest community pages. After I enter my email, the Max tells me the browser is not secure. Just tried it again and still can't sign in. That has been an issue since day 1. It's not the network. No other devices tell me the browser is not secure. Standing right next to the Max now, had to sign in on my phone to post this. No issues on my phone.
No updates available for the Max, the Gen 2s, the home app, or my phone itself.

When any of my devices freeze, and it's happening on my Gen 2s as well as my max, the picture just freezes and does not change. If I swipe the screen to try to get the device to do something instead of just showing a frozen picture, that is when I get the white screen or the black screen on the max. The Gen 2s will go to a Google home screen that has things like communications, media, home control up on the top.
Factory reset on any and all devices does not help the issue. Uninstalling the device from the Google home app does not help the issue. Uninstalling the Google home app, and reinstalling the Google home app does not help the issue. I keep photo frame settings on all devices set to live albums. When they get stuck, on the Gen 2, I can toggle from live album to just albums then back to live albums and it'll unstick them for a while. That does not work on the max. If I don't do live albums, the pictures constantly freeze. Live albums helps alleviate the issue somewhat but it still happens on all of my devices.

Same issue, it’s been a week now.
It starts to show photos on photo frame mode after power cycle, but only for few hours and after that again its the same grayish white cloudy screen until I power cycle it again…. 😞
Any fix yet ??

Make a change to the display settings, save it, then revert if desired. Should clear it up. It has helped with all my customers with the same issue

I'm having the same issue! It's just been a grey screen for ages and restarting and factory resets haven't helped at all!

I noticed my display doing the same but it was fixed when I ensured my display is connecting to my internet hub on 5GHz wifi. I had previously been using the 2.4GHz wifi. In my case i separate the two bands onto their own wifi ssid so its easy to tell. as some of my devices can only connect on 2.4Ghz wifi. i tried the usual reboots and resets but to no avail. When setting up the display for the 5th tine i tried connecting to the 5 Ghz wifi. The hub did not find it on its own. I had to enter the ssid and password and encryption manually but the hub worked fine after that .

It's always been on 5G for me. 😔
