My Google assistant is responding incorrectly or telling me it doesn't understand to most every prompt. When I tell it to turn lights off, it says "I don't understand" or it pulls up spotify.
I called Google and they said there was a current issue with Google assistant and I should leave feedback in the Google home app.
Anyone else having this experience? It just started today. It was working before that

experiencing the same issue, I can't even set a simple timer.

I thought she was just being dumb 🤣 good to know I'm not the only one having issues. I just wanna set an alarm ⏰️

Mine just refuse to put my usual white noise to sleep and puts Spotify. I simply ask the same as usual « put a river sound » and he doesn’t get it

I’m having the same issue I went to go to bed. I said the same thing that I’ve said every night for the last nine years of play the sound of the ocean and it told me that I didn’t have a TV connected.

Same here. Every command I ask to turn on a light or tv comes back with "Sorry, I didn't understand". I can still access thermostat and cameras on home hubs but shopping list doesn't work either. Went in and changed a bunch of settings in the home app and still nothing. Now I can't remember what settings I changed to get back to my original setup. Hope I didn't mess anything up for when the issue gets resolved.

Looks like everyone is having the same problem, Glad I am not alone.
02-04-2025 11:03 PM
Is Google going to fix the problem, I only asked for an alarm to be set. Google says "i don't understand"
Or do we have to buy something else other than Google products.
02-05-2025 01:51 AM
Yes I'm having exactly the same issue and it's on all of my speakers, however if I ask a 'search' related question it still does that fine.
02-05-2025 02:21 AM
Ever since I’ve got a Google Home nine years ago, I say the exact same thing to it every night when I’m going to bed. Play the sound of the ocean today now when I say that it just says, I don’t understand when I try to adjust the volume saying set the volume at 5% or set the volume at 5, it just says I don’t understand. It just told me I don’t understand more times in the last 24 hours than it has in the last nine years, this is the worst update and seriously gonna mess up my sleep schedule. I had also set a timer yesterday and then I was wanting to cancel the timer but every time I said, cancel my timer it just said I don’t understand and then 25 minutes later the timer went off.

Exactly the same for me here.
Yesterday morning it was working fine, but now when I try to ask for lights to be turned on, Google doesn't understand.
When I ask for music to play, it'll play music but if I ask to stop the music, it'll respond with a "roger that" or an "I'll stop" or "sure", yet continue to play music.
Asking for Ocean Sounds will play Spotify rather than the standard in-house sound.
The weirdest thing is that it works perfectly for my wife! All of the responses are totally normal, but not mine.
Based on everyone else's, I wonder if it's an outage on recognising the lead account's voice or something?

This was happening to me last night and this morning. I could not play ambient sounds last night, change volume, stop music, turn on smart bulbs/plugs. It all started working properly 20 mins ago. I hope this is now resolved as it was very inconvenient.

Still got this issue for alarms

Google will do what I ask it to, but noy my daughter. Why?
If I say "Hey Google turn on the kitchen lights" it does.
If my daughter says "Hey Google turn on the kitchen lights" it says one or more devices are not connected.
If I say "Hey Google, Good morning" it plays the set instructions I have set up.
If my daughter says "Hey Google, Good morning" it does different start up actions.

Exactly the same for me here, but in opposite that it doesn't work for me, but does for my wife.

Hey everyone,
I am new to this community but not new to home automation or Nest.
I always had 2 Nest hubs set up at home and they work just fine. A now added another two and this is were things got weird. I hat a ton of home automation issues in the past and always found a solution but this time I really don't know what to do.
Both new nest hubs have individual names and are integrated in my account. I have access to voice control for all smart home things, security system etc.
However, both new Hubs do neither understand nor execute automation commands. I can access the google automation commands via screen but when I select them, the hub says "I did not understand this" Same when I speak the commands. We use voice match which also works and detects propper user and linked accounts on all devices. Has anyone had an issue like that before? Thank y'all in advance

I haven't had many issues and I've made hundreds (too many to count) of automations.
Sometimes the simplest command is most reliable.

Thank you for sharing. But I do not really understand what that has to do with my issue.

Hi Eduardo, thank you for reaching out. I think you may have misunderstood my issue but here we go 🙂
- The issue concerns two nest hubs Gen2 - they do not have any LED on the back
- yes BOTH Nest Hubs are set up correctly and work just fine
- the voice command in question is the trigger for an automation which I called "good night" This automation works on when commanded to my other two Nest Hubs but not with the two recently added. Also when I select the automation manually on screen the two new nest hubs reply "Sorry I did not understand" but the two old ones trigger the automation.
- no there is no error code other than the voice output "i did not understand"
- it never worked as intended, this was from right after installation until this very day.
Once again: I have a total of four Nest hubs, one nest mini and one chromecast in my home. All six devices are linked to my google account as owner and to my spouses account as home member. the two older test hubs (also GEN2), the nest mini and the chromecast trigger all automations correctly.
The two new nest hubs do trigger all smart home things correctly if individually requestet (e.g "lights office off" or "set temperature living room to") Also they link to correct spotify and youtube accounts, voice match works fine, displaying cameras from my security system works. The ONLY issue they have is that they do not trigger automations set up in the google home app.

1) Can we see a full screenshot of your "Good night" automation?
Is "Good Night" also the voice trigger? That voice trigger is ONLY available in the "Bedtime" automation which is in everyone's list of automations and cannot be deleted.
The only way to get around this would be to use a one word trigger "Goodnight" which would confuse the assistant'.
2) Now, has your new Nest Hubs been assigned to your Home and a Room and not still in the "Linked to you" section at the bottom of the Devices page?

Same for me.
When I want turn on a Light, google home tur' on another Light or all the device.
I'm French and I have found a little solution :
No 'prefixe'.
Ex 'cuisine' and not 'La cuisine'
Work the first word.

I'm having same issue with all of my Nest mini speakers, but my Display hub responds correctly when I say the same command?
All my 1st and 2nd generation of Nest mini have respondeded correctly before, but not for few weeks or so?
