Google home mini unable to connect to WiFi @ 5.0 Ghz

From today (10th Nov 2021) the Google home mini (1st Gen) is unable to connect with the WiFi network @ 5.0 Ghz. Is the any recent google update that restricted the use of WiFi @ 5.0 Ghz?

I have been using the device for 2 years in the WiFi 5.0 Ghz band. But suddenly from today, the device is not connecting to the WiFi 5.0 Ghz. I have tried all troubleshooting including WiFi router resetting, changing SSID name and password, resetting the Google home mini thrice, reinstalling the Google home app, calling Google help centre, etc. But nothing was helpful.

Currently I have connected the device in 2.4 Ghz band, but I am unable to connect with the device through my phone as it is connected with 5.0 Ghz. Facing a lot of trouble for that.

Please let me know if there is any way to fix this issue! 🙏🏻

Same problem here. I'll bet you are using a high channel for your 5GHz network (e.g. 149-165).

We faced a similar issue with the Chromecast with Google TV when it was first released. It looks like Google pushed out a bug with the latest firmware (275994) for at least the Google Home, Google Home Mini and Chromecast Gen 2 that prevents them from connecting to higher band 5GHz channels.

Google eventually resolved this issue in a firmware update for the CCwGTV, but looks like they may have introduced it into some of their other devices now.

2 options to workaround this defect until Google resolve it.
1. Change the 5GHz channel in your router to one of the lower ones (e.g. 36-48).
2. Connect your devices to the 2.4GHz network instead.

I am having the same issue since that day but I decided to ignore it until today because I was facing issues with response time so I desperately wanted to fix this issue and I stumbled upon this post. Please let me know if you have found any solution for this.

Ultimately, I factory reset both the WiFi router & the Google Home mini few times, and it fixed the issue.

Thanks a lot, luckily I have fixed the issue. I am able to use it in 5 GHz WiFi. 😊
