Lights on mini constantly pulsing

richardtc007
Community Member

Over the past 2 weeks I've noticed that the Google Home Minis  (5 of them) throughout my house frequently have four pulsing white lights. This is not the result of someone saying anything remotely close to "Hey Google" or "Ok Google" and it is not the result of an errant broadcast.

I've noticed that it even happens when I'm the only one home and haven't said a word.

I've done the whole unplug and reset routine. Why are they all suddenly listening???

Hello everyone,

We have some great news to share! Our team found a fix for this issue, and we're happy to see that some of you have already confirmed that your devices function normally now.

For those users who are still experiencing the same issues, we kindly ask for your continued patience as the update is gradually being rolled out to everyone.

To confirm, it does broadcast the message. Then the "pulsing" lights show up on all of the devices EXCEPT the one being broadcast from. I just did a broadcast from my Android phone. The minis are not pulsing. I would take the phone test with a grain of salt as I also tried a broadcast from a mini and the other minis did not pulse. I broadcast the message "test" .. twice.  This morning when I broadcast "breakfast is ready", which casts the Google custom message ringing the bell and the assistant making the message the pulsing lights came on all devices. So it could be that the issue only occurs every so many hours? or once a day? or first use per day? or only when custom broadcast is used?  Doesn't matter, Google should have fixed this by now. It's been over a month and clearly caused by the recent upgrade..

I supplied Google Home support with three videos which they have watched.  It has apparently been escalated to "THE HIGHER TEAM".  What an absurd name. The "LOWER TEAM" confirmed that the mode is "listening mode", but I am skeptical as I don't think the speed of the pulsing matches any of the modes exactly in reviewing the Google page "what do your Google Home lights mean". Mine pulse about every 3/4 of a second.

Here are the three videos I supplied to Google Home a week ago.

Google devices pulsing perpetually after broadcast

I think I can confirm that the Google Home Max is unaffected .. so far.

here a link for the video if I do a broadcast from google mini

if I do it from my phone.. so far it works like before.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing the video. May I know the firmware version of your device? Also, what country are you located in?

To check the firmware version of your device, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings > Device information.
  5. Under "Technical information," find Cast firmware: X.XXX.XXXXX.

The Google overlords have been forwarded this situation for a long time now and nothing seems to be happening. What's the problem?

Same issue here. I'm in Australia.

Multiple mini devices doing it

One example is 1.56.356012.

Been happening the last week or two

Same here. Multiple devices with firmware 1.56.356012 which continually blink all four lights after a broadcast.

Same issue here. The message broadcasts and the lights are pulsing during it, as they normally do during an action, but now they just keep pulsing instead of stopping after the message is done broadcasting. The behavior started sometime in the past week or two.

Hi folks,

Sorry for the delays. I appreciate everyone for updating the threads. To confirm, is continued conversation enabled on your devices? If yes, please try to disable it to see if your speaker will have the same behavior.

Below are the steps:

  1. Make sure that your mobile device is connected to the same WiFi or linked to the same account as the speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. At the top right corner of the screen, tap your account icon.
  4. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Google Home or Google Nest device. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.
  5. Then tap Assistant Settings > Continued Conversation.
  6. Turn the slider to Off.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi

Just tried that and it worked on all my devices

Continued conversation seem to be available only for English. We are using Swedish and the settings mentioned are greyed out - not possible to change.

Seriously?

”We messed up a couple features, but we think you can fix it if you stop using a different feature.”

They’re no longer features, they’re bugs with occasional usefulness.

I followed the steps and found it was already off. I tried to turn it on instead. Then I could use the broadcast function again, though still with flashing lights after, on all receiving devices. Remains to be seen if it continues to work or not.
My devices are using Swedish, so there is a notation that continued conversation only works in English.

Continued conversation was already disabled in my device.

I have been having the same issue with 3 Google Home Minis for a few days. It's clearly triggered by broadcasts- after a broadcast completes, all the Minis just continue flashing their lights until you tell them to stop. This solution worked! The "Continued Conversation" slider didn't appear to be on in my Settings, but I turned it on and then back off, and the flashing hasn't happened again since.

I tried this. It did not work. It took me a bit to even find the slider as it was mostly "blacked out". Once I spotted it, I clicked on it, it turned blue and "on". I then clicked it back "off". No change when we made our morning anouncement this morning. Every device, except the device we talked to, has the 4 pulsing white lights immediately after the broadcast / anouncement.  Google Home support says I need to setup a new Gmail account and basically start everything from scratch. I am not sure how this is a fix?

This did not fix the problem for me.

This did not make a difference.

I have this problem too.

same firmware version on the google home/ home mini/Nest minis 1.56.356012

i have 5 devices that are left flashing after a broadcast. The sequence is consistent with the ‘assistant is responding pattern’

i have rebooted all devices and home network. Also creates a new home and migrated all devices.

problem is unchanged

Same issue here. Mix of old style Google Home's, mini's, and Nest mini's.

Firmwares on devices:

1.56.324896 on 1 mini

1.56.356012 on a bunch of other devices

Same issue here with a similar mix of devices with the same firmware mentioned above.

Same issue with all three of my google home mini. Started a few days ago. The lights keep blinking non stop. Commands still work fine.

Same problem here in Canada, it’s been a week.

I'm having the same issues as above with the following info:

Technical information
System firmware version: 356012

Cast firmware: 1.56.356012

Language: en-US

I'm in the US.

Same problem. In Sweden with Swedish voice on the devices, otherwise the same as above.

I can add that I am unable to get the speaker to repeat the broadcast. Instead it repeats something random from earlier in the day or say it doesn’t remember.

Same. In Canada. Mixed devices. Similar firmwares.

Same issue with four google mini’s happening for me as well. Located in USA.

Same issue. 6 devices. USA.

Also same here.

US.

System firmware version: 356012

Cast firmware: 1.56.356012

Same, and I started a conversation within Reddit and others are experiencing issues as well.

I don't think my location is relevant.

I have the same issue. Thank you for submitting this. I thought I was the only one.

Same issue here. Firmware 356012. Sweden. Gen 1 and 2, 7 devices in total.

Chatted with Google Nest support earlier today and they knew nothing about the problem.

They adviced me to uninstall the home app and reset the devices to factory default and see if the problem is gone.

Did that work?

korpx

Nope no change except right after the reset and reconfigure the devices started replaying the broadcast on the sending device instead, and silence on the other devices.

I am having the same issue with my 4 mini devices in England, all the same firmware as the other comments. Don't seen to be getting anything on my nest displays.

Is there any idea what this is or any fix yet?

I’ve had the same issue for two weeks. I came home today to one of them pulsating. It must’ve been doing that since the morning.
