Lights on mini constantly pulsing

richardtc007
Community Member

Over the past 2 weeks I've noticed that the Google Home Minis  (5 of them) throughout my house frequently have four pulsing white lights. This is not the result of someone saying anything remotely close to "Hey Google" or "Ok Google" and it is not the result of an errant broadcast.

I've noticed that it even happens when I'm the only one home and haven't said a word.

I've done the whole unplug and reset routine. Why are they all suddenly listening???

adding in on this thread so that I can see updates as well - I am having the same issue. I have tried unplugging and plugging them back in, resetting the devices, factory reset devices, removing from home and adding back in, and non of that works. It happens with every speaker that can listen, even if it is muted, the lights start to pulse randomly throughout the day and the only way I can stop it is giving google any command or saying "hey google cancel". Extremely annoying when it happens daily, multiple times a day, on every speaker in the home (8 total speakers)

This is still not fixed?

This is clearly a big that needs to be fixed with some firmware update. All our Minis and Homes are blinking. There is a way to make them temporarily stop but they'll continue after a certain period. Please use some of you billions of dollars and hire people to fix it.

Same symptoms here. 8 devices that all continue with pulsing lights after broadcasting from one.

Very unnerving to be honest. It's also extremely annoying to go around to each one after a broadcast saying "Hey Google that wasn't for you" to ensure the listening data isn't saved. Not sure if I have to do this or not, but without details from your engineering team I'm assuming this bug triggers listening as it's displaying the same light pattern as it does when listening during a normal query.

Really bad bug for one of the primary features used in my house, folks.

Why has this been marked as best answer?

Clearly, there is no answer and given the large number of folks affected, it should not be marked as 'answered' should it?

I guess the last best answer wasn't good enough lol, sad to say there hasn't been an answer and I'm starting to wonder if they even care.

Just adding mine to the list. This has been going on for over a month with 1 Google home + 4 minis. None of the suggestions work. Every evening I notice all the minis are flashing and if I tell any of them to "Stop" or "Cancel", it turns off a TV in another room or music from a different mini, or whatever else may be on and connected to the system, but the "listening flash" continues on them all, every day...

Same as everyone else. It doesn't matter if the continued conversation is on or off. This is very annoying.

Mine are doing the lights thing after a broadcast, and most of the time the broadcast does not even work these days, sort it out Google, or I am jumping to Alexa.

The problem is still there! Google do something please! This situation is not acceptable!

It's worse now! If I say Hey Google stop, it keeps flashing the light! I have to restart it! Should I switch to Amazon to solve my problem ???

@Google can you test this feature in your office please ?

Any update on the fix? This is affecting me as well and has been going on for far too long. Surprised that the Google legal team is not putting pressure on this due to the implication that the homes are always listening.

Now we already don't get any new hardware, but also the support is apparently discontinued.

Too bad google, so you also scare me away in the long run.

As I've said earlier, it feels like they are running them down to discontinue, check out https://killedbygoogle.com/ and be amazed at how often they do this. They don't care about us customers, because we are the product, Google want to harvest our data and sell it on. It's that simple.

i have a normal mini, not a nest. but it only happens when there is a broadcast.

after the broadcast it keeps flashing and i can only stop it by switching the mic off.

I've been experiencing this nonsense as well. It does not seem to impact the smart display, only the speakers. Total PITA. Until recently, I've been able to just tell google it's not for you but I had to unplug a few of them yesterday as they would not respond. I also know family is having the same issue, not sure why this has been going on for so long; clearly Google doesn't see this as a big enough problem.

For me it does on the display too

After every broadcast the megaphone with the confetti remains.

Usually it fades out back to the clock or Startscreen.

But now it just remains on that broadcast animation.

Seems whatever update they rolled out to the Google home app last night has fixed the issue.

Still having this problem

Have you updated your google home app on your phone recently? there was an update to that app yesterday that seems to have corrected the issue with all of my speakers and screen.

Where or how do you see when device is updated?

Broadcasting is now fixed for my devices and work as normal for me as of yesterday 24-Aug-2023.
The fix was automatic.
No change in Nest mini firmware versions;
Firmware: 356012
Cast Firmware: 1.56.356012

There really should be an official issue tracker for these things @Muddi / Google. This has been a bumpy month.

Broadcasts on our minis are also back to normal. Thank you!!!!! No change in firmware. System firmware version: 356012
 Cast firmware: 1.56.356012

I'm pleased to report that mine are fixed as well.

Thanks Google for no longer (evidently) eavesdropping on my family indefinitely simply because I used a well-documented feature of your product to broadcast a message within my household.

System firmware version: 356012

Cast firmware: 1.56.356012

I'm seeing the problem corrected as well.

Same here, seem to be functioning normally again.

The problem seems to be solved now for me too. Let's hope it stays that way. Thank you Google for finally addressing this issue.

Yes, it is resolved but, as usual, lots of time-wasting, stalling suggestions by staff on here. There is no admission that this was a bug, no updates and it quietly gets put right until next time. Poor show Google.
