Google shopping list not working properly

Jeffrey980
Community Member

The last few weeks when trying to add items to my shopping list, my Google hub 2 shows me recipes.

When ik look at the screen i see in the top bar That Google registers what I am saying properly, it just doesn't add it to my list but opens random recipes.

Sometimes I need to change the spoken word and it works. For instance: i say add coffee milk tot shopping list, i get a recipe when i say add powder milk to shopping list it works.

This is a really annoying recent change.

Hope other people are experiencing the same thing and it's not just me.

Am using Google home on language Netherlands.

Same problem here - also replied to another similar post today of the exact same problem: Dutch language, showing recipes instead of adding to the shopping list. So far if I browse through this forum there aren't a lot of solutions, just a lot questions. Hope you're reading this Google!

Same problem here, also in Dutch.

Noticed the name of my shopping list was something like 'mijn shoppinglijst'. Changed it to 'mijn boodschappenlijst ' and there might be some improvement now. So maybe the name of the list matters for Google, so it doesn't know what to look for?

Changed it to "mijn boodschappenlijst", but no improvement over here.

Same problem here in Dutch. Especially with the Google nest hub. The Google mini seems to work better. I am offered a cooking recipe for many items.

Same issue seems to have started here a few days ago. Something seems to be broken.

Though it works on my Pixel 5 without issues, only Hub V2 seems to be giving the issues here.

Dutch language as well

Same here same problem in dutch, only recipe, and every now and then it seems to work, but a second later its the same problem again.

My work around for the moment is to say ( in duct ) ok google put on my shopping list, it will reply with the questions, what do you want to put on the list, then i reply with whatever i want to add, and it works like that, but its not working like it just to

Working with iphones, android samsung tablet, and 4 google mini`s and a google nest hub max, and they all have the same problem in dutch

In the mean time I submitted this issue to Google Nest support, and they asked me to make a video of me asking my Nest Hub to add something to the shopping list (and see the recipes in response). So far I submitted 2 videos (apparently they had trouble opening the first) and have yet to hear back.

I tried to point them towards this forum so they could see that many people have this problem, but that really didn't land with this guy... he kept insisting he'd only look at my device. I'm not hopeful, but I hope you all do the same thing (create a support ticket) and this ends up with the right people.

Same problem here ! Also in Dutch language...not working on my phone and nest. Also when i want to add f. ex. cola zero, it will add cola AND zero instead of cola zero. When I want to add paprika, it says a recipe. Also the hey google on my phone doesn t react anymore. I cleared the cache etc. but it still doesn t work. Personal results are enabled !

Zojuist met Google hulp gechat. Volgens mij werd het probleem begrepen. Ook wat foto's toegestuurd. Probleem word doorgezet. En als het goed is word ik middels me ticket op de hoogte gehouden.

Reaction of Google:

Hello Jeffrey,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Customer Care Team.

Send me a reply to this email as well please if there is any update to the status of the shopping list. Our developers/engineers are looking into the issue as well already on this.

Same problem with the Norwegian versjon, which for some reason appears with Danish language.
Did anyone find a solution to this issue..?

Same issue in French.

No solution yet, but a way around it that seems to work quite good is the following.

Say: hey Google, add to schoppinglist.

She wil ask what you want to add. For the first time in weeks i could add Ice Tea, instead of getting pushed into making it myself! 😉

It's working again! For us at least 😬

Here's our experience: we've been using a Google Keep list for our shopping list (I called it "Einkaufsliste", German for "shopping list"). In Google Home - Settings - Services - Lists, I've set Google to use Keep as default. That system was working fine for the last years, saying anything along the lines "Add X to the shopping list" would resolve to using the shopping list I've created in Google Keep.

A few weeks back, this broke. Same experience as everyone else in this thread - instead of adding items to the list I was offered recipies. As a workaround, I could say "Add to shopping list" and Google would ask back what items I wanted to add. These, however, would all go to the "default" Google Shopping List (called "Meine Einkaufliste", i.e. "my shopping list" in German) and not the one in Google Keep.

The thing that finally resolved the issue was deleting this default "my shopping list" thing in the above mentioned list settings. I didn't even know that was possible, yet, Google now finally seems to understand (as it did the last years) that I want to add things to my Google Keep shopping list. Maybe this helps anyone else. 🙂

Hey folks,
It looks like we have come to a solution so I'm going to be locking this thread. If you have any other concerns or questions, please feel free to create a new thread.

Have a great day.

It seems that the problem for the Dutch language has been solved!
