Grey tint on screen

My display has a grey tinted rectangle over the background image, is this a software problem or a defective screen

not sure but mine is doing that too.  google was no help - wouldn't replace it - basically just told me to buy a new HUB MAX.  I'm so disappointed that I will never buy another google product and will share my experience with everyone I can.
