Group speakers casting not working with Harman Kardon Citation One

Huberto

Suddenly cast function on my HK Citation One speakers stopped working. Every time I want to cast something from Spotify or any other supported app I'm getting:

  • 'Something went wrong. Try again in a few seconds.'

I've already performed factory reset on both speakers, re-added them to Google Home. Still same issue.

Cast firmware on both speakers is 1.52.272222

Can anyone confirm if this is the latest one? I found in some old topic that outdated Cast firmware can cause similar issues but I don't know where to check what's the latest one for these speakers.

Hi all, even though is it not my topic, I would like to give an update. I spoke to HK support, they are checking with the software team about any not published firmware updates in the future, since the Citation Series all should het further software updates, They will report back to me. So I think the ball is at HK now. Hope this thread will stay open, so once I have an update, I can post this here

I received an update from HK customer support. They told me that an update for the Citation Series is being prepared, and it will be updated in the near future, but they couldn't give me an estimate. So casting should be resolved hopefully very soon!

Same here! Have a HK Citation Oasis on my bedside, and that one is also not working when casting to all speakers. It simply doesn't output any sound. When I'm casting just to the Oasis, it works, but in a speaker group I can't get it to work either.

Firmware version: 1.44.213508

Really hope someone has an answer to this issue

I have exacatly same problem as discribed in first post. I can cast sound from Home app, but not from any other app. "Something went wrong. Try again when you are ready". Aslo i can´t get into settings to remove units "Loading failed. There may be problems with the connection."
I only have the one WiFi connection. Nothing has changed....

Hey folks,

Sorry for the late response. I know how challenging it is when you're having issues casting to your speaker group. To confirm, what are the Google Home/Nest devices included in the group? What is the firmware version? When did the issue start? Are you able to cast to your group when you remove the third-party speaker?

Please note that speaker groups containing non-Google speakers or Cast-based devices may not work properly in speaker groups if they don’t receive a software update. You may notice that those devices don’t play audio in a speaker group. Third-party Cast devices like soundbars with Chromecast built-in will need to be updated to Cast firmware 1.52.272222 and above.

Looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi Muddi,

Sorry for my late response. Currently i'm using a Harman Kardon Citation Oasis with firmware version: 1.44.213508

I already removed the device from my home, factory resetted it and after that did the whole new set up. When I added it into the group it doesn't play the music, but once I use it to cast only to the device it works??

Should I get in touch with Harman Kardon about this?

Hi Mr_Borssie,

Thanks for the information. Please note that speaker groups containing non-Google speakers or Cast-based devices may not work properly in speaker groups if the Cast firmware is under 1.52.272222. You may notice that those devices don’t play audio in a speaker group. The best thing to do now is to contact the manufacturer to check with them if your device is still capable of receiving a firmware update.

Cheers,

Muddi

@Muddi As I mentioned in the initial post, my both speakers are on cast firmware 1.52.272222 but still if I set them as a pair I can't cast to them or play music from Spotify. Both working fine separately. I already did factory reset, removed them from Google Home and added again. No luck. And it seems that's some other issue as they're both on the latest cast firmware.

Can you please advise what to do?

Looks like this issue is affecting more people so I presume it should be investigated by Google.

Hi Muddi, thanks for your reply!

I got in touch with Harman Kardon Customer Support, and they told me that Google is the one that should manufacturers let them update the (cast) firmware. So Google should "push out" a firmware to the manufacturer and then they will let the units update  OTA

The Citation series of HK is quite young, and they still receive updates on a regular basis, but apparently my oasis still didn't receive it.

I think I just need to have some more patience.....

Is there anything I can do to force my device to check for an update?

Hey Huberto,

Just an added question: are you using a dual-band router? What is the make and model of your router? Also, have you tried setting up your devices on a different network like mobile hotspot? This is for us to eliminate network issue.

@Mr_Borssie: Please note that it's the manufacturer's decision if they still allow their devices to receive an update or not. Also, some of the devices are not capable of getting an update because of their system itself.

Cheers,
