Has anyone fixed a Nest Hub stuck on a G screen? The factory reset did not work.

It is several years old. Has it reached its lifecycle? Time to purchase another? How long are they expected to last?

Are you using the original power supply and adapter that came with your device? Try these steps:

Nest Hub (1st gen)

  1. Plug in the device to a different power source then reboot the device (unplug the power cord, leave it unplugged for 1 minute, then plug the power cord back in).
  2. If the issue persists, put the device in recovery mode with these steps:
    • Unplug the power cord.
    • Hold down the volume buttons and plug in the power cord at the same time.
    • Wait for the device to turn on.
    • Release the volume buttons.
  3. Once the device is in recovery mode, on the back of the device, press and hold both volume buttons together for about 10 seconds.

Nest Hub (2nd gen)

  1. Try plugging in the device to a different power source.
  2. Attempt a factory data reset. On the back of the device, press and hold both volume buttons together for 10 seconds.

Nest Hub Max

  1. Try plugging in the device to a different power source.
  2. Attempt a factory data reset. On the back of the device, press and hold both volume buttons together for about 10 seconds.
  3. If the issue persists, put the device in recovery mode with these steps:
    • Unplug the power cord.
    • Hold down the volume buttons and plug in the power cord at the same time.
    • Wait for the device to turn on.
    • Release the volume buttons.
  4. Once the device is in recovery mode, press and hold both volume buttons for 10 seconds.

Hi I followed your instructions - thank you. I held down the volume keys for about 2 minutes and when I released it went from Factory Reset back to the G screen. How long should the Factory Reset screen display - should it be going into reset mode while i am holding down the volume keys? Do you think I should just opt in for the 2nd Generation and if so how long should I expect the unit tpo last. This one lasted about 5 years.

I've asked a specialist to chime in here so they can take care of next steps and other possible troubleshooting options. In the meantime, which model is it you have? 1st gen, 2nd gen, or Nest Hub Max? What country are you located in and where did you purchase it?

Here's how to check which model:

1st Gen Nest Hub

It was a 2018 Christmas gift purchased at Best Buy in Florida,  USA. I still live in FL USA.

Correction purchased in 2016 if I recall.

Hey ViaSalvatore,

Chiming in, thanks for the information. Just an added questions: When did you first notice the (stuck on “G” logo) issue? Was the device already in this state when you first discovered it? If not, was the device in use when it happened? If so, what were you trying to do? Did you unplug the device before you noticed the issue Was there a power outage shortly before you discovered the issue?

Also, please fill out this form with all the needed information then let me know once done.

Cheers,

Muddi
