Home mini says it's playing youtube but it's not

I have two of these devices and have for some time. One in my bedroom one in my kitchen. I have youtube premium linked to my google home app.

Normally whichever room I'm in I'll say "Hey Google, play my likes" and it automatically plays my likes from my Youtube account. Now, this morning, the one in my kitchen will respond with the standard "playing your likes on youtube..." but then nothing.

When I bring the device up on the Google Home app on my phone it shows that it's playing, but it's not. There's nothing coming from the speaker. Everything else is working normally with it except this. I've tried the one in my bedroom and it's not having this issue, it's working perfectly normally. I've tried removing and re adding the device. I've tried a factory reset and still, it isn't playing despite the device saying it is, and the app showing that it's playing.

I can cast from my youtube app on my phone and it works fine, but that sort of defeats the purpose. Again, all of this worked perfectly fine for over a year up until this morning.

I'm having this issue. I've got 2 mini's, a standard nest and a display hub.

Mine aren't playing BBC radio or YouTube premium.

Been speaking to Google and they recommended rebooting my fibre hub and router and factory resetting all the devices, here's where it gets really wierd.

If the first command is to play music from YouTube it will. But then won't play radio.

If the first command is to play radio, it will but then won't play music from YouTube.

They've had screenshots of the firmware of all 4 and passed it to the tech team.

Seems from yourself and on twitter in not the only one having this issue.

I'm keep you posted with any updates I get!

Yeah it's really weird because I have the exact same device in my bedroom and it's working perfectly normally. And the one that I'm having problems with, literally everything else is working as it always has. Turning on smart lights, adjusting their brightness, "tell me about my day", weather forecast etc, etc.. I've removed and added it. I've factory reset it, I'm going to try removing both devices and physically switching them to see if that changes anything.

I'll try rebooting my modem but that's just Google trying to pass the buck I think. Literally every other device I have is working perfectly normally. Even the other mini.

Mine will do everything else other than play the music/radio we want.

So frustrating.

The part that pisses me off the most is that my other identical device isn't having this problem. FAWK!!!  lol

It's the fact that it's one or the other that baffles me. Just doesn't make sense..

Well, I found a "solution" but I can't imagine you're gonna like it...

I basically started from scratch. I deleted my "home" from the Google home app in Android. Factory reset both minis and started over again.

Fortunately my smart lights stayed connected (Phillips Hue) and when I created a new home I just had to assign them to rooms.

Then I just had to go through the setup process for each of the minis (Took about 5 mins or so each). Thankfully since my Google account is linked to my phone all my services Youtube, Netflix etc.. were already saved. The only info I really had to enter manually was the wifi password the first time.

Probably an easier work around but Google does NOT make anything about troubleshooting easy.

Anyhow, it's all back up and running exactly as it should. Setting aside my bitching and moaning here (lol) and the time spent searching for a solution, actually deleting everything and starting over took about 20 mins tops.

Hope this helps.

Madebygoogle were helping me via twitter.

Factory reset all my devices and redid.

Sent them firmware for each one, my ISP settings, router settings and everything they could think of.

Made no difference.

Suddenly today, as if by magic, they all seem to be working as they should.

It's so strange. Literally nothing has changed and yet, touch wood, seems to be working as it always has. 🤷
