I’ve been trying to set up this new look and talk feature on my nest hub max. I don’t even see the option in the settings and I do have voice and face match turned on. A strange thing is that the steps google lists is to make sure Nest cam is off. Is that really right?
I’m thinking maybe I just didn’t get the update yet? It says 45.3.10.415344900

Hi Pseguin219,
Yes this feature works when the camera is off and not looking for events or recording 24/7.
Google do usually roll out new features in stages so it's possible that it just hasn't reached you yet.
The device I am using is on the firmware version below.
System firmware version: 295071
Cast firmware: 1.56.295071
You can find the help center instructions for this feature from the link below.

Is there a way to force mine to update software? I’m even in the Preview Program and it says “waiting for next firmware update” I’ve tried unplugging it a couple times thinking it might update, but didn’t. My firmware version is also 295071 and cast version 1.56.295071. Since I have the same software as you, why wouldn’t it be working? I turned off the camera by swiping up on the device and tapping on the camera. In the google home app, tapping on face match brings up a window with “Face Match at Pat’s Home” with a slider that is enabled for “devices you will add later and a checkbox for living room display max. There is no other option listed there.

Hi again,
Unfortunately it isn't possible to force updates, Google applies these from their end and usually does it in waves to check that it is working correctly and isn't causing other issues.
You can check that your devices are using the English US language settings. In the screenshot below is the option I see for enabling/disabling this feature.

So does that mean I have to swipe up on the display and turn off the camera in order for this to work? I’m not sure look and talk would even work with the camera off…

From the device setting the camera should be set to on. But you can't use this feature while it's actively recording 24/7 or monitoring for events (green light on or flashing).

So will the checkbox for look and talk not show up until I turn off the thing that enables 24/7 monitoring?

If the feature is rolled out to you and you have all the requirements for using this feature then the setting will be available with or without the camera being actively used.
The help center says it's a US only feature but I'm a UK user that uses my mobile device and Google Nest devices with the English US language settings and I have this feature.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for posting.
@Cathal_S, I appreciate your help on answering this thread.
@everyone, hope that the info shared by @Cathal sheds some light to your questions. Look and Talk feature is only available on Google Nest Hub Max and this feature is slowly rolling out for US devices. Also, keep in mind that these updates are sent over-the-air as long as your device is connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection.
Best,
Princess

Well, we’re into June and I still don’t see the option to enable look and talk. I have voice and face match both turned on, only English, and I’m in Northeastern US. Why would I possibly still not have this feature?

Hi Pseguin219,
Thanks for responding.
As long as your device is connected on a stable Wi-Fi netwotk, you should be able to receive the updates. As another option, we can try to perform a complete reset to your device, however we can't guarantee that it will be available as soon as we set it up. Let me know if you want to try this so I can assist you further.

🎉🎉🎉
Happy to hear this and sorry that it took so long. When the Google Home app recently updated I was one of the last to receive that?
Thanks for coming back and letting us know 👍
