Morning routine not triggered by alarm on Nest Hub 2

Hey,

I've had this weird issue for quite a while - I have two different alarms on my Nest Hub 2nd gen for every day of the week:

1) 8.45, Monday to Friday

2) 10.00, Saturday to Sunday

I've set up my Morning routine on the Google Home app, and it's working fine on the 2nd alarm on weekends (tells me the weather, adjusts my bedroom lights, plays relaxing music, turns the latter two off after 5 minutes).

Now I can't for the life of me figure out why the Morning routine never triggers on the first alarm (weekdays). I've of course set up the alarm correctly on the Hub to trigger the Morning routine when the alarm is dismissed, do-not disturb mode is not on - I simply can't see why the routine wouldn't trigger. I have tried re-creating the alarm multiple times as well as factory resetting the device and re-installing it in the Google Home app but this hasn't fixed the issue.

What's also weird is that I've noticed that when I wake up, set up a new and separate alarm for 8:50 after dismissing the original alarm (that didn't trigger the routine), that 8:50 alarm then triggers the Morning routine. This would also suggest that there's no "hidden" do-not-disturb mode on at said time that I've somehow neglected. I honestly can't think of anything else I could do to fix this - would anyone be able to assist?

Thank you 🙂

Hey there,

I'm sorry to hear that your routines aren't working like they should be, I'm sure that's frustrating but I'm happy to look into this for you.

Have you tried deleting the routine and setting it up again? Second step I'd take if that doesn't work, is to uninstall and reinstall the app, or unlink and reconnect the devices to the app.

As a last resort, you can factory reset the devices and that may help you as well.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Hey there,

Thanks for the response! Sadly I have tried deleting the routine and setting it up again. I've also factory reset the device two times already - I really don't know how this issue survived that one as well 😞

Hi there,

Thanks for letting me know what you've tried. When you delete the routine and set it up again, it should work as intended again. What issues are you seeing after you have done that?

I look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Garrett DS

Hey Garrett DS,

Thanks for the response 🙂 I can't exactly delete the Good Morning routine, as it's not a custom one. I've removed the existing actions and re-added them, but this doesn't seem to fix the issue 😕

Adding some additional findings - it does seem like the Morning Routine (on weekdays) is triggering certain actions, such as turning on the lights, that I've set up as a part of the routine. However, anything that requires the device to actually speak or play sounds, refuses to work. I'm not greeted by the usual "Good morning, the time is 8:45, today you can expect rainstorms and 15 degrees.." etc. and the screen is not showing me the weather forecast, like it does on weekends. The "relaxing sounds", that I've set to play as the last action, also do not play. It definitely seems like there's a hidden do-not-disturb option enabled somewhere (I've of course disabled this and night mode in Google Home settings for the device), which might cause the failure of these actions requiring sound. It's pretty strange that a factory reset isn't doing anything either - I'm really confused 😞

Adding more findings here while still hoping to find a solution... 🙂

I've now replaced the initial Hub 2 with another Hub 2 device that I had in another room. What I noticed is that literally nothing changed - the weekend alarms at 10.00 still triggered the Good Morning routine, while the weekday alarms at 8.45 did not. This should obviously mean that there is nothing wrong with the Hub 2 device, but the problem lies elsewhere. I suppose there must be some sort of a hidden "general" do-not-disturb at xx o'clock enabled that I'm unable to find (in either Google Home or Google Assistant settings)?

Please help 😞

Hey there,

Thanks for your patience on this while our team investigated the issue. They have come back to me and asked that you send the feedback directly to the device and ensure you have the option to "include Personal Information" selected which will help capture logs for our team. When you go to send the feedback please use the keywords, "Morning routines not triggered by alarm".

You can also send feedback by going here.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

Hey,

I have used my device to submit the above feedback - thanks for looking into this!

In the meanwhile - I might have found the culprit. I've been testing different settings to see what could be the root cause here, and I noticed that disabling Sleep Tracking on the device has allowed the Morning routine to trigger normally for the past 2 days. I do not know why the Sleep Tracking would interfere with the routine, especially as my "bedtime schedule" has been set to end at 8:00 AM (so I "should" be out of bed by the time my alarm goes off). Hopefully there's a fix or an alternative solution that can be applied here, as I do like using the sleep tracking function 😕

Hey Garrett,

Nothing new to add - I can confirm that as soon as I re-enabled Sleep tracking the Good Morning routine stopped working again. I'm however not sure if there's any fix you can provide me with that wouldn't require turning the sleep tracking off? 😞

Thanks!

Hey there,

I'm so sorry to hear that the issue is still persisting. I'm unsure why this would still be happening which is why the best way to have our team investigate this would be to send feedback as stated previously.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

Alrighty then - I have submit the feedback as instructed earlier, so I guess I'll have to wait until there's an update that might fix this 😞 Thank you anyway!
