Multiple speakers problem

Betty81

Hello,

my kids have google mini’s in their rooms but they can’t listen to different songs at the same time.
Only one mini seems to be able to play music at once.
Does anyone know how I can make it so they can both listen to music and use the mini’s at the same time?
Not sure I’ve set it up correctly maybe.

Most music services only allow playback on one device at a time (e.g., I use spotify and if I am listening in one room and attempt to play a different song in another room, the initial room stops playback). I think the only way to play different music in different rooms is if the user issuing the command in each room has their own google account and their own music service account. However, using a different music service in each room does also work - e.g., in room 1 play music using spotify and in room 2 play music using youtube music. Which, incidentally, is what I do when I'm playing relaxing music at home for my dog (spotify) while I'm out and want to listen to music in the car (youtube music)

HI folks,

@ernsty, thanks for the help.

@Betty81, thanks for posting. I hope you've got the answer you're looking for. If you want to play different songs on all your Nest Mini’s each member should have their own music service account.

Check this link for more information.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Juni

Hello, sorry. Yes so if we have more than one Spotify account or a family account then we could use that? Or does it have to be totally separate as in one on Spotify and one on YouTube music (which doesn’t seem to be free?)?

Hi Betty81,

If you have a Spotify family account, you may need to link and add as a home member the other family member so they can link their Spotify family member account.

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network or linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. At the top right, tap your account.
  4. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Nest speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.
  5. Go back to the home screen, and at the top left, tap Add Music.
  6. To choose your default service, tap the music service you'd like to use. Assistant will use this service when you say “Hey Google, play music.”
  7. To link functionality:
    1. For YouTube, your accounts are automatically linked when you link your Google Account to your speaker or display.
    2. For Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, and others, you'll need to link your accounts.
      • To connect your account, tap a music service Link account sign in or sign up for the service and follow the in-app steps.
      • To unlink an account, tap Unlink Unlink account.

Note: For all services, speakers and displays currently support a single account per streaming service.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Princess
