My google nest hub's voice assistant works. But, it's display stopped working. It's stuck in blank state for a long while. I tried the following:

  • I disconnected and connected power.
  • Factory reset was done

The issue is still not resolved. Please help

Interesting. This is exactly my experience to the letter. I wonder about software updates that require a greater amount of processing or exceed the memory capacity of older units.

I tried contacting the google support team for this issue. They’re trying to connect with Redington since last 20 days.

Hi Akshay any luck

My solution was to buy another stinking hub on Black Friday special.

I think that's what they hope you will do. I got no further (not yet anyway) trying to resolve my problem.

I completely get you and wish I had the willpower to hold on . . . my family just wants to have these around, and it seems a quicker way to handle with absolutely no reasonable response. If you figure something out, I'd much appreciate some insight.

My google nest is now just displaying the G with a grey background. When I try and do a system reset I get just a bright back screen. Any advice?

Sorry - chuck it away And buy a new one Gen II works fine with Gen I.

My device does the same. The voice commands all work fine. Just the screen is messed up.

this is the only thing I can get from Google hub. I can get it too SAY it win do factory restore, but it doesn't, it just goes back into restarting over and over and over. Unplugged and plugged back in numerous times. All it does is restart repeatedly

Is there actual help? Or … do they wait for us to just give up and spend more money? At this rate, I’m disinclined to buy from google. Not that google cares. Clearly.

My question is, does anyone on this thread know someone who has a functional first gen, or did all of them start doing this?

Twice mine has had a blank screen but the thing still responds to queries as if nothing was wrong.  Recent purchase and will be returning to Best Buy.  Unplugging and rebooting works.  Not going to wait for a 3rd time.

It's really deplorable that there has been no progress at all in these matters, even after several months have elapsed with no support we have simply been fobbed off.  Personally I'm really appalled and would definitely never buy any Nest or Google hardware again after this experience. It is time Google addressed this problem, or are we being expected to scrap perfectly good hardware that was working fine ?

My one same thing, the screen goes blank and this is a second set. The first set not even one year have this problem as can be exchange. Have ask the customer service mention is a hardware problem no repair. If warranty over need to get new or replacement. I now the second set last longer  a bit as over one year no more warranty.

Too many with the same problem. I did solve it though - I chucked it back in its box and bought a new gen 2 in the currys sale. It works fine with my other gen 1.  No help to you sorry. I just got so b.... y fed up with it.

Yep . Mine is the same. Obviously it's a common fault. It's a shame as I really loved mine but i'm not going to replace it with a new one. What would be the point of that if there're all doing it!!

Got the same problem days after warrenty expired. I suspect it was designed to so it.

I am now having a similar problem. Our Nest Hub stopped working and now just shows a grey screen with the letter "G" upon reset. I have tried resetting it numerous times and still just get the gray screen with the cap "G". It won't respond to anything other than a reset. In order to reset it, I have to unplug it, then hold both volume keys while I plug it back in.

After only showing the gray "G" screen and only being able to attempt a reset after unplugging, holding the volume up and down together and plugging the unit back in, it now goes to the reset screen after unplugging and plugging it back in (I no longer have to hold the up/down volume keys when plugging it in). When I hold the up/down volume keys to reset, it counts down, restarts and just goes back to the reset screen. It's still not working but is acting different.

After all the tries and nothing, I had finally given up on it.  Two days ago I thought, "No harm in trying it again before I pack it away as spare parts . . ." I plugged it in, and it worked! I can only guess that another firmware update came through that worked out whatever glitch was the problem before. So other people, if you're getting that stuck loading screen, waiting some days or weeks and plugging back in might just be what it needs to come back online.

My parent and I both have one of these and they stopped working around the holidays. Only now really getting time to look it to this and it sees hopeless for these nest hubs. Reboots don't work and they always stuck on a screen. I can use it like a speaker but it seems to be infected with some bug to make us buy the newest gen. Sad that this is how it went. I thought Apple was made as an example that this is a shadey move by big corporations!

You may be correct. I can say it stopped working pre-holiday, working again post holiday. Correlation does not prove causation, but I lack better explanations.

No such luck for me I'm afraid. After dozens of attempts to re-install, my device has been bricked, with no help from Tech Support nor anyone else after several months. It's really bad service.

Quick update for my case. I saw a couple of people say they tried again and their nest hub started working. So, I plugged mine back up. It got an update and now it's working again.

Thanks, Google!

I bought Google nest hub 3 months back. I am getting a blank screen and it is very weird that the display is going off within 3 months of purchase, I am not able to contact customer care no given in the box. Can I get a solution from Google on the same? I tried starting and resetting and still, nothing works. thank you

it is frustrating. I am not able to reach the customer care of Google. Trying to reach them since Sunday and your digital verification is not allowing me to continue. it says there are no pending requests however there is one request against the same ID. Can someone help me in sorting out this issue

Hi I’m having a similar issue.   None of my google products are connecting to my Wi-Fi network

That sounds like a different issue than the screen not initializing.  Maybe an elementary question, but are you using a compatible wifi frequency and using the Google Home app to connect each of the products? When it's system wide, it looks like an issue with the wifi.

My other Google home products work correctly., so does the new gen II I bought in currys sale, took 5 mins to set up. The previous one is now back in its box.  Thankyou.

I guess Google wants us to buy another, esp when they're 'only' £55 or so. It's disappointing that Google has apparently killed off perfectly OK first gen hubs without so much as an apology. Mine's off to the dump I guess.

Mine too - back in your box gen I.  Google should be ashamed.

Hey you might try that old google hub after a while. Ours stopped working before the holidays, and then in February I decided to see if it was just bricked or what before I got rid of it. I plugged it in and it worked like there was never a problem. It's weird like they were trying to prompt us to replace it or something.  In any case, may be worth plugging back in now and again to see if a new firmware update came through.

Did you get a resolution on this one? I suspect it may have to do with the type of wifi network (2.4GHz or 5GHz) you're connected to. Many home wifis have both.

Have you checked to see if the Screen Timeout feature is disabled? It's in your Google Home app under Display settings.

Thankyou, not done this but will certainly give it a go. Thanks so much.
