My nest keeps playing sleep sound all night

ponkan75

Hi,

My google nest mini keeps playing sleep sound all night when I use the bedtime-routine. Earlier it stopped after about 1 hour, but now it keeps playing all night. I have activated the sleep sound country night.

What can I do to make it play for 1 hour again? I don’t want it to keep playing all night.

I have tried setting up a new similar routine, but it keeps playing through the night in the new routine as well.

I resolved my own issue by creating a custom routine that includes the custom action, “play country nights for 60 minutes”. Of course you can substitute any sleep sound for “country nights”.

Hey all,

We've heard feedback that turning off sleep sounds after 1 hour was insufficient for some of our users, so we made the decision to remove the end time. We're currently investigating ways to build a comparable solution and appreciate your patience.

Best regards,

Jake

Just a manual command stopped working at least a month ago.

You have to use a 3 stop process now.

1. Create a manual command "Play X"

2. Create a Delay Start (new item) for how long you want the music to play

3. Manual command to "STOP'.

When I try to make a custom routine. It just states sound will stop automatically (12hours). No way to select time. Only when first started the routine. You have to manually push screen and select time.

You don’t need a routine, you just need to say “Hey Google, play Country Night Sounds (or whatever sleep sounds you prefer) for 60 minutes (or whatever time you prefer) and it just does it. Has been working as it used to for a while now.

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting.

@Fahadalbahoth, I just want to follow up, do you still need help on this? Let us know if you have additional questions and I'd be happy to assist you further.

Best,

Princess

@Princessswe're all still having issues with this. It shouldn't be too complicated to have the option to set a time period within the routine. Thank you for following up!

As it still doesn't work properly, I think we all need it fixed.

Thanks.

Hello everyone,

Could you tell us if reset has been done? If not, here's how: https://goo.gle/32c7nIF

Also, kindly provide the cast firmware version of your Google Nest devices?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Looking forward to your responses.

Best,

Princess

Hi Princess,

I saw the answer of another member about a delay start for one of the routines, I will try that one today, Because before it did not allowed me to  place any command after the sounds.

On another topic, how about being able to randomize the sleeping sound?? is that possible??

Thanks
Nicolas

Hi Princesss,

I did a factory reset of my display last night before going to bed and it seemed to have worked! My sleep sounds weren't playing this morning when i woke up. Hallelujah, thank you!

Christel

Hi folks,

christeljoy,  I’m glad that worked for you. If you need further help, let me know.

nnavarrete, to listen to an unspecified ambient sound you can try the command "Play ambient noise". See this link for more information about it.

Juni

I think I spoke too soon. Woke up this morning and the sleep sounds were still playing. Had to shut it off manually again 😔

Every evening when we go to bed. We manually set the time. About a hour. It works for us.(sprocket down to the right when the sounds start) .  I also hate that you not can set the duration in the routine

Hi dfalfano,

Thanks for responding. Our team is already investigating this. Let's go ahead and follow the main thread and wait for an update.

We are TIRED of following this!!!! When will someone there FIX IT?????

BTW everyone, I got my Pixel 7 Pro yesterday and the same thing happens on it. It is NOT a hardware issue as I think we all knew. It is their software. Something on the back end of the code for Sleep Sounds was changed.

But why are Google not fixing this?

I have no clue.

I am having this issue also. When is Google pushing out the update to fix it? Previously there was an option to choose the amount of time the sleep sounds/music played for

Princess, I came here because my sleep timer is not working, just like everyone else. After reading the apparent lack of customer service on this issue, perhaps it is time to move to Alexia?  You will loose a user if you do kit fix this issue. This is the only reason I have a smart speaker.

Up until recently we have had the same sleep routine set for 3 nest speakers in the house.

you would say 'hey google, goodnight' it would then read us the weather, set an alarm and then play thunderstorm sounds for exactly 1 Hr.

Now the thunderstorm sounds play all night or untill i turn off manually and then go to the kids rooms and do the same.

Does anyone know how to make it automatically turn off after 1 Hr again?

please help

Hi @Josh23 ,

This is an issue some others have brought up and has also been escalated to the Nest team as well as Google Assistant. Seems like the latest updated made some changes to the sleep sounds.

Please also send feedback from your device. Just say "share feedback" and record your message about the sounds and the issue.

Thanks for reporting!

I’m having the same issue. I can’t figure out how to change it back to 1 hour. I’m thinking, after reading a few other issues and your post that it’s a Google change that needs to be fixed. ???

Same issue here. It seemed to start ~2 weeks ago, but maybe a little longer.

No updates still ? This issue is very annoying

EVERYONE has already done ALL the troubleshooting! Fix this issue! We have given you everything you needn

Mine as well… I ended up making a custom command “play sleep sound thunder for 2 hours”.

Seems to work but annoying that it started doing that.

Does that work? Giving it a voice command to stop after a certain time?

It works if you voice command "Play [name of sleep sound] sound for 60 minutes" but this is not an acceptable fix to the issue.

Same issue here - seems to be system wide - and no one is happy about it - hopefully the6 fix it soon

i too made a custom command over the weekend and thats working fine. "play sleep sound rain for 60 minutes".  this should work for you until a fix is put in place.

808IUFan

That is NOT a solution to the issue. Sleep sounds should work since it is a stock feature. THAT is what we are complaining about. Something GOOGLE created that used to work NO LONGER WORKS. FIX IT WE DO NOT WANT TO USE A WORKAROUND! DO YOU UNDERSTAND?

BiggT

Slow your roll. It IS a solution. Maybe not the one you want, but it is a solution. Either use it or don't but don't come at people like that when they're just trying to help.

DO NOT tell me what to do. I want the problem fixed. I do not want a work around. Get it?

I get that you have issues. I'll just continue to enjoy my solution. You stay angry. 👍🏼

It’s not a solution. It’s. Workaround.  Solution is fixing the original issue so good night routine works as expected
